2、e a group of people born from 1964 to the mid or late 1970s in the United States and Canada. Nobody is quite sure where to draw the demographic boundaries. The term is also used to describe anyone who is “Twenty something” at the time following the powerful “Baby Boomer” spiked after World War II. T
3、his generation is also known by a variety of Labels: baby-busters, post-boomers, the 13th generation or thirteeners (the thirteenth generation since the ratification of the constitution), and slackers (referring to their alleged lack of work ethic).The term Generation X was coined by a photographer
4、named Robert Cape in the early 1950s to describe the “unknown” generation growing up immediately after WWII, and was later used by Jane Dverson in her study of a group of British teenagers, popularized by a Canadian author Douglas Coupland in his 1991 novel, Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Cu
5、lture. “X” describes the lack of identity that members of Generation X felt they didnt know where they belonged, but knew for sure that they werent a part of the overbearing generation of Baby Boomers. Gen-Xers have in general been portrayed as apathetic, Disaffected, and with no course in life. It
6、is commonly agreed that people in this generation were shaped by significant social trends and cultural events that occurred during their first 20 years.An economic roller-coaster during the 1970s, outdatedand overcrowded schools, the downfall of national heroes, the Challenger disaster and workahol
7、ic parents all contributed to the psychological temperament of this generation . Sky high divorce rates and being latchkey children are two social trends that molded this generation into the self-reliant, pragmatic individuals. These experiences imbued Generation X with an entirely different set of
8、goals and values than their baby-boomer managers.Factors that influenced Generation XThey had to take care of themselves as latchkey kids, so they dont buy into being bossed around.They saw company-loyal parents put out of work in downsizings, so theyre more interested in their own personal career g
9、ains, instead of the employers.They were raised on TV, MTV and in a culture of immediacy, so they like entertainment but dont stay in one place too long.2. Persian Gulf War (Para 3)Conflict beginning in August 1990, when Iraqi forces invaded and occupied Kuwait. The conflict culminated in fighting i
10、n January and February 1991 between Iraq and an international coalition of forces headed by the United States. By the end of the war, the coalition had driven the Iraqis from Kuwait. 13、andle maker, formed a partnership to manufacture and sell their products, In the 1930s P&G gave teams within the company responsibility for promoting and managing particular brands of products. This practice of managing product brands became common among corporations. P&G also heavily advertise its
14、soap on the radio in the 1930s, sponsoring daytime dramas that became known as soap operas. Now a soap opera means a serial on television or radio that deals with the lives of a group of characters, especially in a melodramatic or sentimental way, which is about daily life and problems of a regular
15、cast of rich, handsome and prestigious characters. II.
