Presentingideas

Analysisofteachingmaterials:

ThislessonistakenfromUnit6SpaceandBeyondPresentingideas(2019).Withthethemeofspaceexploration,theunitintroducesthehistoryofspaceexploration,thecurrentstateofspacenavigation,andthepossibilityofextraterrestriallifeinthefuture.

Teachingobjectives:

1.KnowledgeObjective:Studentsunderstandthehistoryandachievementsofspaceexplorationandunderstandthedevelopmenttrendofspaceexploration.

2.Abilitygoal:Todevelopstudents'Englishlistening,speaking,readingandwritingskills,andtobeabletodescribespaceexplorationandexpressopinions.

3.Emotionalgoal:stimulatestudents'interestinscience,cultivatestudents'creativethinkingandteamworkconsciousness.

Teachingfocus:

1.Wordsandphrases:spaceexploration,spaceshuttle,artificialsatellite,terraforming,extraterrestrial,etc.

2.Historyandachievementsofspaceexploration.

3.Futuredevelopmentofspaceexplorationandthepossibilityofextraterrestriallife.

Teachingdifficulties:

1.Understandandapplyknowledgetodescribeandexpressopinionsaboutspaceexploration.

2.Understandandsummarizethekeyinformationinthetext.

Analysisoflearningsituation:

ThestudentisaseniorsophomorewitharelativelyhighlevelofEnglishandhasmasteredbasicEnglishlistening,speaking,readingandwritingskills.Haveaninterestinspaceexplorationandscientificknowledge,butmaynothaveagoodunderstandingofthehistoryandfuturedevelopmentofspaceexploration.Studentshaveasenseofteamworkandcreativethinking,suitablefordiscussionandcollaborativelearning.

Teachingstrategy:

1.Takestudentsasthemainbody,createagoodlearningatmosphereandstimulatestudents'interest.

2.Encouragestudentstoparticipateactively,strengthencooperativelearning,andcultivatestudents'senseofteamwork.

3.Createspecificsituationsandproviderealmaterialstostimulatestudents'thinkingandpracticalability.

Teachingmethod:

1.Taskbasedteachingmethod:Throughthesettingoftasks,studentsareguidedtodescribespaceexplorationandexpressopinionswithwhattheyhavelearned.

2.Cooperativelearningmethod:Studentsdiscussandcooperateingroupstopletetaskstogether.

3.Questioningteachingmethod:Guidestudentstothinkandsummarizethekeyinformationinthetextbyaskingquestions.

Introduction(about5minutes):

Thepurposeoftheleadinsessionistoarousethestudent'sinterest,activatetheirpriorknowledge,andestablishaconnectiontothetopicoftheclass.

TeachingActivities:

1.Warmupwithstudents:Teacherscanusethepicturesontheclassroombulletinboardorslidetoshowstudentssomespacerelatedpictures,suchasspaceships,stars,planets,etc.,andaskstudentstoguessanddescribetheiruseornatureaccordingtothepictures.

2.Organizeagroupdiscussion:Studentsbreakintosmallgroupsanddiscussthepictures.TheteacherledstudentstotalkaboutEnglishwordsandphrasesrelatedtothepictures,suchas"spaceexploration"and"spacecraft".

Classroominteraction(approx.35minutes):

Thepurposeofinteractiveclassroomsessionsistostimulatestudents'collaborativemunicationandthinkingskillsandguidethemtopresenttheirideasandideas.

TeachingActivities:

1.Releasequestion:Theteacherasksaquestionrelatedtospaceexploration,suchas:"DoyouthinkhumanbeingsshouldinvestmoreinspaceexplorationorshouldtheyfocusonsolvingproblemsonEarth?"(Doyouthinkhumanityshoulddevotemoreresourcestospaceexploration,orshoulditfocusonsolvingproblemsonEarth?)Studentsareencouragedtothinkandpresenttheirownideas.

2.Groupmunication:Studentsworkingroups,sharetheirownopinionsandreasons,andmunicateanddiscusswitheachother.

3.Presentideas:Eachgroupchoosesarepresentativetopresenttheirgroup'sideastotheclassandtrytoconvincetheotherstudentstoaccepttheirideas.

4.Classdebate:Dividestudentsintotwoteams,onesupportingmoreresourcesforspaceexplorationandtheothersupportingsolvingproblemsonEarth.Eachteamsentrepresentativestodebate,inalimitedtime,putforwardtheirownviews,andaccordingtotheothersideofthepointofviewtorefute.

Thepurposeoftheendsessionistosummarizethecontentofthelessonandstimulatestudents'thinking.

Teachingcontent:Summarizetheclassroomlearningcontentandthinkingquestions

TeachingActivities:

1.Teacherssummarizestudents'ideasandideasinclassinteractionandremindstudentshowtoexpresstheirideasandopinionsinEnglish.

2.Questionstudents:Leadstudentstothinkandansweropenendedquestions,suchas:"Whatdoyouthinkisthesignificanceofspaceexplorationforhumanbeings?"(Whatdoyouthinkisthesignificanceofspaceexplorationforhumanbeings?).

3.PreviewTips:Theteachershowsthelearningobjectivesofthenextlesson,tellsthestudentsthetopicofthenextlesson,andinstructsthestudentshowtopreparefortheclasswork.

Throughtheaboveteachingprocess,itishopedthatstudentscanimprovetheiroralexpressionskillsindiscussionsanddebates,andlearntopersuadeotherstoaccepttheirviewsinEnglish.Atthesametime,itwillcultivatestudents'abilitytothinkandanalyzeproblems,anddeepentheirunderstandingandknowledgeofspaceexploration.

Inthisclass,studentslearnalotaboutspaceandplanets.TheywereabletolearnabouttheKeplerSpaceTelescopeandsomeinterestingfactsthatscientistshavediscoveredinouterspace.Intheteachingreflection,Ifoundthefollowingproblems,andputforwardthecorrespondingimprovementandsummedupsometeachingexperience.

Firstofall,Ifindthatsomestudentshavedifficultyunderstandingsomescientificterms,suchas"exoplanet".Asateacher,Ishouldexplaintheseconceptsmoreintuitively,suchasthroughpicturesorvideos,tohelpstudentsunderstandthembetter.Infutureteaching,Iwillpaymoreattentiontoguidingstudentstousecontextcluestoinferthemeaningofwords,soastoimprovetheirvocabularyunderstandingability.
