They are paying more attention to what the teachers say, and, most importantly, they are no longer fidgeting all the time. “Before, they were drumming on their desks or touching other students. They dont do that any more now. Their feet are getting the movement out,” she said. “There has been a huge increase in the quality of our students work and a decrease in the amount of missing work. I think the world is changing a lot and kids need to be able to do something different.” Lambeth fixed the cycling machines at the end of last year, which cost around $ 150 each. The cost was covered by money from kind people. Not all desks have pedals(踏板) under them, so not all the children have to use one. The school is hoping to get more pedals because of the role cycling machines could play. The kids clearly love the new “toys”. Sofia Fedele, one of Lambeths students, said cycling helped her focus on (專注) her work during class. “I usually tap my feet and stuff to keep me focused. I think pedaling is much better. It keeps me exercising and focused,” she said. Quinn Spear, another student in Lambeths class, also mentioned the good effect on health of cycling during class. He told reporters that he had pedaled 5.5 miles and burned 133 calories, all before 10 am. 25. What is the passage mainly about?A. The school that Bethany Lambeth works in. B. To show the kids love the cycling machines. CYou wake up in the morning. The day is beautiful and the plans for the day are what you have been looking forward to for a long time. Then the telephone rings, you say hello, and the drama starts. The person at the other end has a depressing (令人沮喪的) tone in his voice as he starts to tell you how terrible his morning is and that there is nothing to look forward to. Are you still in a wonderful mood? Impossible!Communicating with negative (消極的) people can wash out your happiness. It may not change what you think, but communicating long enough with them will make you feel depressed for a moment or a long time. Life brings ups and downs, but some people are stuck in the wrong idea that life has no happiness to offer. They only feel glad when they make others feel bad. No wonder they can hardly win others pity or respect. When you communicate with positive people, your spirit stays happy and therefore more positive things are attracted, When the dagger(匕首) of a negative person is put in you, you have the heavy feeling that all in all, brings you down. Sometimes we have no choice but to communicate with negative people. He/She could be a co-worker, or a relative. In this case, say what needs to be said as little as possible. Sometimes it feels good to let out your anger back to the negative person, but that will lower you to the same negative level and they wont feel ashamed of themselves about that. Negativity often affects happiness without even being realized. The negative words of another at the start of the day can cling to (附著) you throughout the rest of your day, which makes you feel bad and steals your happiness. Life is too short to feel negative. Stay positive and avoid negativity as much as possible. 29. The purpose of the first paragraph is to .A. make a comparison B. offer an suggestionC. introduce a topic D. describe a daily scene30. How can negative people have effect on us?A. By influencing our emotion. B. By telling us the nature of life. C. By changing our ways of thinking. D. By comparing their attitudes to life with ours. 31. Some negative people base their happiness on .A. other peoples pity for themB. making other people unhappyC. building up a positive attitudeD. other peoples respect for themDYawning (打哈欠) sends out certain messages either “Oh, this movie is so boring” or “I probably need to get some sleep”. But do you know that a yawn can also help your brain to cool down when it is overheated?A new study, led by a research team at Princeton University, has indicated that yawning could be the brains natural way of regulating the temperature. People yawn more often when the temperature outdoors is lower than their body temperature but are less likely to yawn when it is hotter outdoors, according to ScienceD. The research team did an experiment on 160 people, 80 in summer and 80 in winter, to examine how often they yawned at different air temperatures. The study found that people yawned more often in winter than in summer. Scientists say that when the air temperature is lower than the body temperature, there is an exchange of heat between the overheated brain and the cool air. But when the air temperature is higher than or equal to the body temperature, people are less likely to yawn because the hot air they breathe in will make the brain even hotter. When people yawn, their jaw is also stretched, which increases blood flow and may also help cool the brain. The study showed that the amount of yawning could be related to the amount of time people spent outside. The longer they stayed outside in summer, the less they yawned. Nearly 40 percent of participants yawned within their first five minutes outside, but after that the percentage was reduced to less than 10 percent. However, the result was the opposite in winter. The number of people who yawned increased when they spent more than five minutes outdoors. But the change was only slight compared to summertime. According to the Gallup poll, this is the first report to show that yawning frequencies change depending on seasons. This could help us to understand better the way our brains work. It may also help us understand the reason why frequent yawning can sometimes be a sign of brain disease. 32. The purpose of the experiment is . A. to prove people yawn in winter and in summer equallyB. to indicate brains can regulate the temperature naturallyC. to find the frequency of peoples yawningD. to show the real reason why people yawn33. The information we get from Paragraphs 4 and 5 is that . A. longer outdoor summertime results in more yawnsB. yawning frequencies change with outdoor timeC. yawning frequencies increase with outdoor timeD. longer outdoor wintertime leads to fewer yawns34. According to the text, people yawn more often . A. when the air temperature is lower than the body temperatureB. when the hot air breathed in makes the brain hotter temperatureC. when the air temperature is higher than the body temperatureD. when the air temperature is equal to the body temperature35. What could be the best title for the text?A. Yawning Is a Sign of Brain DiseaseB. Yawning Carries Some InformationC. Yawning Benefits Your BodyD.
