Around155millionyearsago,the5,000-kilometercontinentbrokeofffromWesternAustraliaandbegan

Argolandactuallygo?
TheseabedstructuresuggeststhatthecontinentdriftednorthwestwardandendedupSoutheastAsia.But
surprisingly,thereisnolargecontinenthiddenbeneaththoseislands,onlysmallcontinentalfragments(碎片)
surroundedbyancientoceanicbasins.Usingthistheory,geologistsatUtrechtUniversitydiscoveredthatArgoland
hadn'treallydisappearedbutsurvivedasa“veryextendedandfragmentedcollection^^undertheislandstotheeast
ofIndonesia.
UnlikeothercontinentslikeAfricaandSouthAmerica,whichbrokeneatlyintotwopieces,Argolandsplitinto
manysmallerfragmentsthatweredispersed,whichmadeitdifficultforscientiststolocateandstudythe
continenfsgeologicalfeatures.However,withadvancedtechnologyandthediscovery,scientistscannowpiece
themtogether.
Tracingthecontinentsisvitalforunderstandingprocessesliketheevolutionofbiodiversity.Itcouldhelp
explainsomethingknownasthemysteriousWallaceline,whichisanimaginaryboundarythatseparatesmammals,
birds,andevenearlyhumanspeciesinSoutheastAsianislands.Theboundaryhaspuzzledscientistsbecauseof
