百慕大Bermuda是歷史最悠久的英國(guó)海外領(lǐng)地，早于英格蘭殖民《1707年聯(lián)合法案》(ActsofUnion1707)頒布及英國(guó)建立前的一、兩個(gè)世紀(jì)。聯(lián)合國(guó)非殖民化委員會(huì)自1945年起將其列為全球16個(gè)非自治領(lǐng)地之一。

Bermudaconsistsofnineparishes(地方行政區(qū))。Fromwesttoeast，theyare：Sandys(pronounced"sands')，Southampton，Warwick，Paget(whichhasthegreatestconcentrationofhotels)，Pembroke(hometotheCityofHamilton)，Devonshire，Smiths，Hamilton(nottobeconfusedwiththeCityofHamilton)，andSt.George，whichincludestheU.S.navalairbaseandthelittleislandofSt.Davids.Intheearlydays，thesedistricts，whichencompassabout21squaremiles，werecalled"tribes.'Bythebeginningofthe18thcentury，thetermTribeRoadreferredtotheboundariesbetweenparishes.Pembroke，whichencloses(圍住)thecapitalcityofHamilton，isthelargestparishinpopulation;St.Georgehasthelargestlandarea.

Becauseofitssmallsize，itseasytogettoknowtheislandparishbyparish.Theresmuchtosee，whetheryoutravelbybike，ferry，bus，ortaxi.Youllneedplentyoftime，though，becausethepaceisslow.Carsandothermotorizedvehicles，suchasmopeds(助動(dòng)車;機(jī)器腳踏車)，mustobservethemaximumspeedof15mphinHamiltonandSt.George，20mphinthecountryside.Thespeedlimitsarerigidlyenforced，andthereareseverepenaltiesforviolations.
