YellowstoneNationalPark,establishedbytheU.S.CongressandsignedintolawbyPresidentUlyssesS.GrantonMarch1,1872,isanationalparklocatedprimarilyintheU.S.stateofWyoming,althoughitalsoextendsintoMontanaandIdaho.Yellowstone,widelyheldtobethefirstnationalparkintheworld,isknownforitswildlifeanditsmanygeothermalfeatures,especiallyOldFaithfulGeyser,oneofthemostpopularfeaturesinthepark.YellowstoneNationalParkYellowstoneNationalParkspansanareaof3,468.4squaremiles(8,983km2),comprisinglakes,canyons,riversandmountainranges.YellowstoneLakeisoneofthelargesthigh-altitudelakesinNorthAmericaandiscenteredovertheYellowstoneCaldera,thelargestsupervolcanoonthecontinent.Thecalderaisconsideredanactivevolcano.Ithaseruptedwithtremendousforceseveraltimesinthelasttwomillionyears.Halfoftheworld'sgeothermalfeaturesareinYellowstone,fueledbythisongoingvolcanism.LavaflowsandrocksfromvolcaniceruptionscovermostofthelandareaofYellowstone.YellowstoneNationalParkspan
