2、as the Bronte sisters.They shone splendor in the literary world in the nineteenth century in England. Emily Bronte, just spent three decades in the world ,and left the earth in obscurity . However, her only novel Wuthering Heights has established her position in the history of English literature and

In addition, she also wrote 193 poems.Therefore, she was considered to be a British genius authoress.Wuthering Heights showed a picture of life in an abnormal society through a love tragedy.It described a love and revenge story of a man,who suffered social prejudice and humiliatio

Heathcliff,hero of the novel, was adopted by the old master of Villa.He suffered humiliation and failed in love.Therefore,he decided to take revenge on Catherine,the woman he loved very much,and her husband Linton and children. Eventually, he completed his revenge. However, he died in depression

6、the narratives stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty. Though Charlotte Brones Jane Eyre was initially considered the best of the Bronte sisters works, many subsequent critics of Wuthering Heights argued that its originality and achievement made it superior. Heathcliff Found, and presumably

7、orphaned, on the streets of Liverpool, he was taken to Wuthering Heights by Mr. Earnshaw and reluctantly cared for by the rest of the family. He and Catherine later grew close, and their love became the central theme of the first volume; his revenge and its consequences were the main theme of the se

8、cond volume. Heathcliff is typically considered a Byronic hero.Catherine EarnshawFirst introduced in Lockwoods discovery of her diary and etchings, Catherines life was almost entirely detailed in the first volume. She seemingly suffers from a crisis of identity, unable to choose between nature and c

9、ulture (and, by extension, Heathcliff and Edgar). Her decision to marry Edgar Linton over Heathcliff has been seen as a surrender to culture, and has implications for all the characters of Wuthering Heights. Edgar Linton Introduced as a child of the Linton family, who reside at Thrushcross Grange, E

10、dgars life and mannerisms are immediately contrasted with those of Heathcliff and Catherine, and indeed the former dislikes him. Yet, owing much to his status, Catherine marries him and not Heathcliff. Nelly Dean The second and primary narrator of the novel, Nelly has been a servant of each generati

11、on of both the Earnshaw and Linton families. She is presented as a character who straddles the idea of a culture versus nature divide in the novel: she is a servant, and has experienced life at Wuthering Heights. However, she is also an educated woman and has lived at Thrushcross Grange. My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, Im well aware, as winter changes the trees.
