Sam Benton, the local butcher, had lost his wallet while taking his savings to the post office. 當(dāng)?shù)氐耐缿羲_姆本頓在把存款送往郵局的途中把錢包丟了。 “taking his savings to the post office. ”是個現(xiàn)在分詞結(jié)構(gòu)。當(dāng)兩個動作是一個主語時，其中一個可以用現(xiàn)在分詞或是過去分詞來代替，從而省略一個主語，使得句子更加精練。比如： When she heard the news, she got a shock 當(dāng)她聽到這個消息時，大吃了一驚。 我們可以用現(xiàn)在

5、分詞改為： When hearing the news, she got a shock. 同樣，來看看過去分詞的情況：When he was asked his opinion, Mr. Smith remained silent.當(dāng)有人征求Smith先生的意思時，他就保持沉默。 我們可以改為： When asked his opinion, Mr. Smith remained silent. 3. Sam was sure that the wallet must have been found by one of the villagers, but it was not return
