1、.Chemical Peels / Microdermabrasion What are Chemical Peel and Dermabrasion?Chemical Peel and Dermabrasion are procedures designed to refresh the appearance of your skin. A Chemical Peel aims to produce an exfoliation of the outer layers of the skin while a Dermabrasion utilizes a technique similar

2、to "sandpapering". The skin removed can be superficial or deep. The more superficial techniques usually aim at giving the skin a "fresh, clean" look. However, they will not remove the wrinkles. The deeper methods may try to remove wrinkles, such as those around the lips. The deep

3、er the technique, the greater is the chance for complications such as altered pigmentation of the skin and scarring. You should discuss during your consultation what you hope to achieve by these techniques in order to determine which technique is best suited to your requirements. Are these methods a

4、lternatives to a Facelift?There are limitations in what can be achieved by these exfoliation techniques and thus they should be considered complimentary to rather than an alternative for a Facelift. Which procedure is better for me?A consultation is the first step in considering any of these treatme

5、nts. You should frankly discuss your goals and expectations, in order to get an explanation of which technique is better for you. To minimize the effects of aging in the face characterized by the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, or sun damage, either chemical peel or microdermabrasion may be s

6、uggested. Their effects are similar. It all depends upon your specific skin type and the imperfections you wish to correct.How is Dermabrasion performed?Under local or general anesthesia, a high-speed rotating device is used. The wire brush, or the diamond abrasion sander removes the upper layer of

7、skin. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the face may be left exposed, or covered with a dressing for a few days. Microdermabrasion is performed without any kind of anesthesia since it is painless. It uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle

8、abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. A microdermabrasion session can be performed in less than an hour and results are seen immediately. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmenta

9、tion.How is a Chemical Peel performed?A liquid chemical solution is applied to the face. The face may be left exposed, covered with ointment, or covered with a mask made with layers of adhesive tape with openings for eyes and mouth. The chemical "burns off" the upper layer of skin. This is

10、 then replaced during the healing process with new, younger looking skin. Will I be hospitalized for the procedure?Chemical Peel and Dermabrasion may be performed as a Day Case or alternatively with a short hospital stay. Normally these procedures take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. They may b

11、e performed along with other plastic surgery procedures.What results can I expect?With both procedures, after the normal healing period the skin will appear slightly pinker and firmer. As a result you should appear more youthful and refreshed. Are there any risks or side effects?The deeper the Chemi

12、cal Peel or Dermabrasion the better the result. However the potential for alteration in skin color and areas of scarring due to delayed healing and infection increases. A conservative procedure usually results in rapid healing with minimal risk of side effects. When can I resume normal activities?Re

13、turning to your usual routine is an individual matter. You will be advised on your schedule, and under normal circumstances you would return to your regular routine in a time that varies from the same day to as long as two weeks. You will also be advised about when you can resume the use of cosmetic

14、s and how to protect your skin from the sun. You must also follow some other instructions, such as staying out of the wind for at least four weeks.Laser Skin ResurfacingLaser resurfacing, sometimes called "laser peel," involves using a laser to remove damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by lay

15、er. The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines of expression, especially around the mouth and the eyes. It may also be used to treat facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often, the

16、 procedure is done to complement another cosmetic operation, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.Laser resurfacing is performed using a beam of laser energy, which vaporizes the upper layers of damaged skin at specific and controlled levels of penetration (selective photo-thermolisis). Laser resurf

17、acing may offer advantages over other resurfacing methods in selected cases. However, laser resurfacing isn't for everyone. In some cases, an alternative skin resurfacing treatment, such as dermabrasion or chemical peel, may still be a better choice.All resurfacing treatments work essentially th

18、e same way. First, the outer layers of damaged skin are removed. Then, as new cells form during the healing process, a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin surface is produced. Laser resurfacing is a relatively new method being used by many plastic surgeons to remove damaged skin. For superficial

19、 or medium resurfacing, the laser can be limited to the epidermis (the most superficial layer of the skin) and papillary dermis (the intermediate layer of the skin). For deeper resurfacing, the upper levels of the reticular dermis (the deepest layer of the skin) can also be removed. Varied penetrati

20、on allows treatment of specific spots or wrinkles.It's also important to consider the length of recovery when choosing among the skin-resurfacing alternatives. In general, the more aggressive the resurfacing procedure is, the more prolonged the recovery is likely to be. Who is best candidate for

21、 laser resurfacing?In many cases, facial wrinkles form in localized areas, such as near the eyes or around the mouth. The laser can be precisely controlled so that only these specific areas are treated.Your skin characteristics will be evaluated in order to make recommendations about the most approp

22、riate skin resurfacing procedure for your case. Remember, having laser resurfacing can help enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't completely remove all facial flaws or prevent you from aging. Lines that occur as a result of natural movements of the face such as smiling,

23、squinting, blinking, talking and chewing will inevitably recur. I can suggest ways to help you preserve your results by protecting yourself from sun exposure or using maintenance treatments. Before you decide to have laser resurfacing, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them in your

24、 consultation. AnesthesiaLaser resurfacing is most commonly performed under local or topical anesthesia with sedation, especially when it is used to treat localized areas of the face. You'll be awake but relaxed. For more extensive resurfacing, general anesthesia may be used, in which case you w

25、ill sleep through the procedure. The procedure Laser resurfacing is a relatively quick procedure. It usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to one and a half hours, depending on how large of an area is involved.
