3、ing of female status after the industrial revolution. apart from the foreword and conclusion,it consists of two partsthe first part is the womens status in 18th century;the second part is the increasing of women status after industrial revolution.keywordsjane austin, industrial revolution, female st

4、atusmain bodyi have ever seen sense and sensibility, and also have ever read pride and prejudice. both them are written by jane austin, a famous english writer in 19th century. and at this time, i read northanger abbey, too. austins novels didnt have the significant social problem, but had the peace

5、 village scenery of describing with her exquisite pen point. she truly described the small world around her,especially among ladies of marriage and love by womens unique meticulous observation, and represented the english countryside middle class daily life and rural scenery which has not been impac

6、ted by the capitalist industrial revolution. (i)the womens status in 18th century maybe jane austin was good at creating characters when she wrote novels. she can describe her lifelike characters with vivid conversation and interesting plot. in her work, the heroines had a common characteristics, th

7、at is, they are beautiful, virtuous, endearing, but poor. numbers are a part that cant be ignored in austins novels. almost her all works fill in them such as earning, heritage, and so on. so does northanger abbey. in this novel, it relates to the problem of property anywhere. general tilney, the he

8、ros father, married with the heros mother for her money; john thought that he will marry with catherine, so he exaggerated catherines property and caused that general tilney had an excess of enthusiasm to catherine and also let his son, henry, ingratiate her; when general tilney knew that she is not

9、 rich, he droved her away at once, so snobbish.on the other hand, it is an obvious reflection to the relationship between money and marriage for most of people, especially the nobility without property, at that time. austin put her heroine in the patriarchal society and observed them, and we can see

10、 that peoples value based on the ownership of property. women are at a stage of disadvantage from the start, can only obey the man and the so-called law because the male heirs got the property from generation to generation. i have an expressive situation when i saw the northanger abbey: when catheri

11、ne morland and mrs allen joined the ball at the first time, they didnt know any person; but if no person or father recommended them to others, they cant talk with anybody. absolutely, that is a severely restriction for women.(ii) the increasing of women statusas we all know, britain was the country

12、which the first carried out industrial revolution in the world. and jane austin lived in these years at the beginning of the industrial revolution. industrial revolution not only had led to the social productive forces advance,but also had aroused social productive relations changeindustrial revolut

13、ion is a reform which effect relates to social lifes all sideswhile industrial revolution brought about powerful productivity,it had also aroused society, familys change,all these had significant effect to britain womanthough at industrial revolutions initial period,most woman were confined within t

14、he family,what all of knowing to them was fewbut be accompanying the industrialization and the development of politics democratization,a lot of woman had began to go out of their family and walked into the external worldthey had become the independent laborer and could earned wage by themselvesin th

15、e process they had been striving for the equal right with male,womens social position also improvedin terms of literature, from the end of the 18th century to the early 19th century, vulgar boring sentimental novels and gothic novel are full of english literature. austins novel was iconoclastic, and

16、 uses an unusual plan to show the english countryside middle class daily life and rural scenery which has not been impacted by the capitalist industrial revolution. her work was often mocking people stupid, selfish and snobbish and blind confidence contemptible ridiculous weakness through the comic

17、scenes. austins novel appeared in the 19th century, opposed the false romanticism trend, inherited and developed the 18th century english realistic tradition, and prepared for the climax of the 19th century realism fiction. although her works reflection was limited in breadth and depth, but her work

18、s played a good role to change the vulgar culture in novel creation, and had the essential meaning in the history of the development of english novels. in her hand, the heroines became more and more vivid, their status and view of marriage was revealed.nowadays, there are more and more female writer, and the status of women is higher and higher. with the unremitting endeavor of human beings in hundred years, the female status increased day by day. today, laws recognize
