But as kids and parents enjoy their welldeserved break from school work, we can all take a more active role in ensuring their minds dont simply melt away into a mess of video games, texting and social media. Summer is the perfect time to encourage children to read. A recent study, conducted by Common Sense Media, has found that the older kids get the less likely they are to read for pleasure. There has been a drop in reading among all kids, especially adolecents over time. And reading for fun drops off dramatically as children grow. The study found that more than half of all nineyearolds read daily for fun. But those numbers drop to just 27 percent among 13yearolds and even lower for older teens. In 1984, 31 percent of 17yearolds said they read every day for pleasure. But that number has dropped to disturbing 19 percent today. Its not just the kids who are reading less. Parents also read to their children less than ever. A recent survey shows this busier generation of parents read to their children just an average of 30 minutes per day down from an average of 45 minutes per day in 1999.In todays world, there are more distractions for children, and reading doesnt always stand high on that list. Part of the decline is surely due to the technology impact on children. But the digital revolution also means opportunity. There are more platforms than ever for children to read: from tablets (平板電腦) to eReaders. In this brave new world, we must find more creative ways to engage our kids and ensure that we are raising a new generation of readers.語篇解讀:本文主要介紹了孩子們由于父母繁忙等原因讀書越來越少,因此提醒成人要關(guān)注孩子的閱讀習(xí)慣。1One of the main reasons why children read less is that _.Atheir reading proficiency is decliningBparents are too busy to read to themCthey are faced with the homework stressDbooks written for them are not attractive解析:選B細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第三段中的“this busier generation of parents . average of 30 minutes per day”可知,現(xiàn)在的父母們每天給孩子讀書量減少是因?yàn)樗麄兒芊泵Α?How did the author describe the decline of reading in Paragraph 2?ABy conducting a survey.BBy giving examples.CBy listing figures.DBy telling a story.解析:選C推理判斷題。根據(jù)第二段中不同年齡的孩子讀書的比例可知,這一部分主要是通過列舉數(shù)字來描述閱讀量的減少。3It can be inferred from the last paragraph that _.Adigital revolution can benefit peoples reading habitsBit is easier for children to be influenced by technologyCtablets and eReaders are really bad reading platformsDdistractions must be removed to improve childrens reading解析:選A推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段中的“But the digital revolution also means opportunity.”可知,數(shù)字革命對于人們而言也是一種機(jī)會,因此對于人們的閱讀習(xí)慣是有益的。4The authors purpose of writing this passage is to _.Aexplain why kids dont like readingBemphasize the importance of readingCgive tips on how to help children readDremind adults of their childrens reading解析:選D寫作目的題。本文主要介紹了孩子們由父母繁忙等原因讀書越來越少,因此提醒成人要關(guān)注孩子的閱讀習(xí)慣。.語法填空In your daily life, there are many examples where your parents control hundreds _1_ things for you when you are a kid, such as the clothes you wear, the food you eat, where you go and how you get there.
