FlorenceNightingalewasborninFlorence,Italy,whileherwealthyEnglishparentsweretravelinginEurope.Asachild,shetraveledtomanyplaceswithherfamilyandlearnedhowtospeakseverallanguages.
WhenNightingalewas17,shetoldherfamilythatshewasgoingtohelpsickpeople.Herparentsdidnotapprove,butNightingalewasdetermined.

In1854.EnglandwasfightingawarwithRussia.№reporterswroteabouttheterribleconditionsinthehospitalsthatcaredforthewounded.Peopledemandedthatsomethingbedoneaboutit.AleaderofthegovernmentaskedFlorenceNightingaletotakesomenursesintothewarhospitals.So,inNovember1854,Nightingalefinallygottoworkinahospital.
Shetookalong38nurseswhomshehadtrainedherself.
Atfirst.thedoctorsonthebattlefieldsdidnotwantNightingaleandhernursesintheirhospitals.Theydidnotbelievethatwomencouldhelp.Butinfact,thenursesdidmakea
difference.Theyworkedaroundtheclock,tendingthesick.Thankstotheirhardwork,many
woundedsoldierssurvived.
Afterthewar,Nightingaleandhernursesweretreated1ikeheroes.。Finally,in1860,she
startedtheNightingaleSchoolforNurses.Intime,thankstoFlorenceNightingale,nursing
