Theresearchwascarriedoutontomatoplantsandtobaccoplantsbycuttingtheir
stems(莖)anddepriving(錄U奪)themofwater.Amicrophonewasplaced10cmawayfrom
them.Whentheirstemswerecut,theplantsstarted"screaming"between20and100kilohertz,
andthescientistsguessthatthisscreamisprobablymeanttowarnotherplantsnearby.
Whenthetomatoplants*stemswerecut,25ultrasonic(超聲的)painsoundswere
recordedinanhour,andatthesametime,15ultrasonicpainsoundswererecordedfromthe
