Nosignificantmonth-on-monthdropinconsumersentimentrecordedinanymarket
Washington,DC,March17,2021—At44.7,thismonth’sIpsosGlobalConsumerConfidenceIndexisupbyeight-tenthsofapointoverlastmonth,markinganewhighsincethestartoftheCOVID-19pandemicayearago.
TheGlobalConsumerConfidenceIndexistheaverageof24worldmarkets’NationalIndices.Itisbasedonamonthlysurveyofmorethan17,500adultsundertheageof75conductedonIpsos’GlobalAdvisoronlineplatform.ThissurveywasfieldedbetweenFebruary19andMarch5,2021.
Sixofthe24surveyedmarketsshowsignificantgrowthintheirNationalIndexwhencomparedtoFebruary2021:GreatBritain(+3.6),theUnitedStates(+2.2),Belgium(+1.8),Canada(+1.7),Japan(+1.7),andTurkey(+1.6).Meanwhile,notasinglemarkethasexperiencedasignificantdrop,definedas1.5indexpointsormore.
NationalIndexTrends
RoughlyoneyearaftertheWorldHealthOrganizationdeclaredCOVID-19apandemiconMarch11,2020,theGlobalConsumerConfidenceIndexcomesinat44.7,aboutfourpointsbelowwhereitwasthen(48.5)aswellasacoupleofmonthsearlier,inJanuary2020(48.7),justbeforetheworldhadheardofthecoronavirus.Witha0.8-pointuptickoverFebruary2021’sreading,theindexshowsamonthlyincreaseforthefourthstraightmonth.
WithaNationalIndexabove50,China(71.8),SaudiArabia(62.9),India(56.9),Sweden(55.9),Australia(55.4),theUnitedStates(52.5),andGermany(51.9)arethehighestindexingmarketssurveyed.
JusttwomarketshaveaNationalIndexbelow35:SouthAfrica(34.7)andTurkey(33.6).Neithercountry’sindexhassurpassed35sinceearly2020(AprilandMarch,respectively).
AlthoughGreatBritain’sNationalIndexcontinuestotrailthatofothercountries,itshowssignificantgrowththismonth.Itisup3.6pointsto48.4,just1.8pointsbelowitsJanuary2020level(50.2).

TheExpectations,Jobs,andInvestmentIndicesalldisplaygrowthsinceFebruary2021.Amongthe24marketssurveyed,GreatBritainandtheUnitedStatespostsignificantgainsforeachindex.
TheglobalJobsIndexisupslightly,withamonth-on-monthgainof0.8pointto49.8,butitstilltrailsitsJanuary2020readingby6.6points.GreatBritainandTurkeyshowthelargestgrowthintheirJobsIndexsincelastmonth,andnocountrypostsasignificantdecline.
However,China(+3.7)istheonlymarketwhoseJobsIndexnowsurpassesitsJanuary2020reading.
TheglobalInvestmentIndexcurrentlyreadsat39.2,up0.7pointfromlastmonth.GreatBritain,theUnitedStates,andBelgiumallpostincreasesofmorethan2points.Atthesametime,SaudiArabia,Brazil,andHungarydisplaymonth-on-monthdeficits.
TheglobalExpectationsIndex,indicativeofconsumers’outlookontheirlocaleconomy,financialsituation,andemploymentringsinat55.5.ItdisplaysthelargestgainacrossindicesandtrailsitsJanuary2020readingbyjust1.5points.AswiththeJobsIndex,noneofthemarketssurveyedshowasignificantdropintheirExpectationsIndexoverlastmonth.GreatBritainpoststhegreatestmonth-on-monthincreaseof5.1points.
