近些年，中國人尤其是年輕一代越來越重視西方節(jié)日，特別是圣誕節(jié)、情人節(jié)，而對本土的節(jié)日特別是春節(jié)、七夕節(jié)的興趣有所淡化。有人認為這是“文化入侵Culturalinvasion

中國的主要傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日都是由歲時節(jié)令轉換而來的，具有濃厚的農業(yè)色彩。而西方的傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日大多來源于基督教，帶有濃厚的宗教色彩。

從辭源學上看，“節(jié)”最初在漢字中是指植物葉與枝交接的部位，引申為季節(jié)、節(jié)氣，隨后又引申出節(jié)日的意義。

而在英語中，“節(jié)日”(holiday/holyday)一詞本義就是“神的日子”，或者“獻身宗教的日子”。

中西方節(jié)日起源的不同反映了二者背后兩種不同的文化。一種是農業(yè)文化，一種是基督教文化。
