Partings for the Chinese involve a certain amount of ritual and a great deal of one-upmanship. The Chinese feel they must see a guest off to the

14、4. In China perhaps one of the things that surprises a Western visitor most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food into the plates of their guests.
