1、it言吾精逗一百句言俞言吾而篇第一一、子曰:而日寺當(dāng)之,不亦乎?有朋自逮方乘, 不亦架乎?人不知而不慍,不亦君子乎? THE MASTER said: “ In learning and straightway practising is there not pleasure also? When friends gather round from afar do we not rejoice? Whom lack of fame cannot vex is not he a gentleman?二、子曰:巧言令色,斛矣仁。 The Master said:“ Honeyed words an

2、d flattering looks seldom speak of love. ”三、子曰:君子食瓢求鮑,居瓢求安,敏於事而慎 於言,就有道而正焉:可好擘也已。The Master said:“ A gentleman who is not a greedy eater, nor a lover of ease at home, who is earnest in deed and careful of speech, who seeks the righteous and profits by them, may be called fond of learning.”四、子曰:不患人之不

3、己知,患不知人也。 TheMaster said:“ Not to be known should not grieve you:grieve that ye know not men. ”五、曾子曰:吾日三省吾身:卷人謀,而不忠乎? 典朋友交,而不信乎?傅,不!乎?Tseng-tzu said:“ Thricedaily I ask myself: Have I been unfaithful indealing for others? 5、orth star holds his place, and the multitude of stars r evolve upon him. ”九、子曰:吾十有五而志於H;三十而立;四十而 不惑;五十而知天命;六十而耳七十而攏心所欲, 不瑜矩。 The Master said: At fifteen, I was bent on study; at thirty, I could stand; atforty, doubts ceased;at fifty, I understood the laws of Heaven; at sixty, my ears obeyed me; at s

Forthe young to be a stay in toil, and leave the wine and cakes to their elders, i s this to fulfil their duty?十二、子曰:吾典回也系冬日,不遑如愚。退而省其 私,亦足以彝,回也,不愚!The Master said: If I ta

8、lk all day to Hui, like a dullard, he never stops me.But when he is gone, if I pry into his life, I find he can do what I say. No, Hui is no dullard.”十三、子曰:溫l故而知新,可以養(yǎng)yR幣矣。The Master said:“ Who keeps the old akindle and adds newknowledge is fitted to be a teacher.”十四、子曰:擘而不思則罔,思而不擘期殆。The Master said:

A cart without a crosspole, a carriage without harness, how could they be moved? ”十六、子曰:非其鬼而祭之,也。冕羲不卷,瓢勇也。 The Master said:“To worsh

OF the Chi having eight rows of dancers inhis hall, Confucius said:“ If this is to be borne, what isnot to be borne? ”十八、子曰:人而不仁,如褪何?人而不仁,如槃 何? The Master said: “A man without l

A man without love, what is music to him? ”十九、子曰:君子瓢所事,必也射乎?揖I1而升,下而歐,其孚也君子。JThe Master said: A gentleman has no rivalries-except perhaps in archery; and then, as bowing he joins the winners, or steps down to see the loser drink, throughout the struggle he is still the

12、gentleman. ”二十、子夏日:(巧笑倩兮。美目盼兮,素以卷 兮),何需也?子日:事彳爰素。Tzu-hsia asked:“What is the meaning of: Hercunning smiles,Her dimples light,Her lovely eyes,So clear and bright,The ground, not yetWith colours dight ?”The Master said:“ Colouring follows groundwork.二十一、子入太廓,每事冏?;蛟唬菏胄枸酥?知褚乎?入太踴,每事冏。子之曰:是褚也!On enteri

On entering the Great Temple, he asked how each thing was done! ”Such is theOn hearing this, the Master said: ceremony.言吾里仁篇第四二十二、子曰:富輿:t,是人之所欲,不以其道得 之,不慮也。典腰是人之所

14、悲,不以其道得之,不 去也。君子去仁,悲乎成名?君子IO冬食之遑仁, 造次必於是,Ml沛必於是。The Master said:“ Wealth and honours arheatwmendesire; but abide not in them by help of wrong.Lowliness and want are hated of men; but forsake them not by help of wrong.“ Shorn of love, is a gentleman worthy the name? Not for one moment may a gentleman

By ill-luck his life was cut short. Now that he is gone, I hear of no one who is fond of learning. ”三十六、子曰:督哉回也! 一簞食,一瓢it在

24、陋 巷,人不堪其夏,回也不改其督哉回也! TheMaster said:“ What a man was HAuid! ish of rice, agourd of water, in a low alleyway; no man can bear such misery! Yet Hui never fell from mirth. What a man he was! ” 三十七、子曰:知之者不如好之者,好之者不如槃之者。 The Master said: “Who knows does not rank with him who likes, nor he who likes with

25、him who is glad therein. ”三十八、子曰:知者槃水,仁者槃山,知者勤,仁者青爭。知者桀仁者毒。The Master said: Wisdom delights in water; love delights in hills. Wisdom is stirring; love is quiet. Wisdom enjoys life; love grows言吾述而篇第七三十九、子曰:述而不作,信而好古,藕比於我老彭。 THE MASTER said: “A teller and not a maker,one who trusts and loves the past;

26、 I may be likened toour old Peng. ”四十、子曰:甚矣吾衰也!久矣,吾不彳復(fù)蘿兄周公!The Master said:“ How deep is my decay! It is longsince I saw the Duke of Chou in a dream.”the Duke of Chou:Died B.C. 1105. He was theyounger brother of King Wu, the founder of the dynasty, as great in peace as the king in war. He was so anx

27、ious to carry out olden principles,“ that whenaught he saw did not tally with them, he would look up in thought, till day gave way to night; and if by good luck he found the answer, would sit on waiting for dawn ” (Mencius, IV. B. 20).四十一、子曰:自行束脩以上,吾未售焉!The Master said:“ From the man who paid in dri

28、edmeat upwards, I have withheld teaching from no one. ”四十二、子曰:不憤不改。不徘不褻。聚一隅不以三隅反,即不彳復(fù)也。The Master said:Ortlythosefumbling do I open, only for those stammering do Ifind the word. On days when he had been wailing, the Master did not sing.四十四、子曰:富而可求也,雖隹孰鞭之上,吾亦卷 之;如不可求,優(yōu)吾所好。The Master said: Were shouldering a whip a sure road to riches, I would turn carter: but since there is no sure road, I tread the path I love. ”四十五、子曰:疏食歐水,曲肱而枕之,槃亦在 其中矣。不羲

31、 said:Why couldst thou not say:He is a man so eager thathe forgets to eat, whose cares are lost in triumph, unmindful of approaching age ?”四十七、子不怪、力、The神。The Master never spak of ghosts or strength, crime or spirits.四十八、子曰:三人行,必有我自幣焉。擇其善者而徙之;其不善者而改之。The Master said: Walking three together I am sure

I pick out the good and follow it; I see the bad and shun it.四十九、子曰:君子坦藻藻,小人晨戚戚。The Master said:“ A gentleman is calm and spacious: the vulgarare always fretting. ”言俞言吾泰伯篇第八五十、曾子曰:以能冏於不能,以多冏於寡,有若 瓢,1T若虛,犯而不校。昔者吾友,曹優(yōu)事於斯矣。 Tseng-tzu said:“ Out of knowledge to learn fromignorance, out of w
