Criticizing traditional customs and stubborn perspective rooted in the society and humans minds 2. Eulogizing the youth 3. Ways to be self-reliant第3頁(yè)/共11頁(yè)第三頁(yè),共12頁(yè)

2、。1. Criticizing traditional customs and stubborn perspective rooted in the society and humans minds To begin the essay, Emerson shows us such a society, where people speak not what they but man thought. Thats to say, people think as others think, do as others do. In Emersons eyes, the society lacks

But the cruelneexisting in the society is that for nonconformity, the world whips you its displeasure. 第4頁(yè)/共11頁(yè)第四頁(yè),共12頁(yè)。1. Eulogizing the youth Emerson points, “the man and women who shall renovate life and our society state are most from those who posses new ideas and self-reliance”. And truly, it deman

7、ds something godlike in them who have cast off the common motives of humanity and has ventured to trust himself for a taskmaker. Only those youth with independent spirit can eliminate the rooted traditional and stubborn customs and regulations to turn the society into a better one. 第6頁(yè)/共11頁(yè)第六頁(yè),共12頁(yè)。

8、3. Ways to be self-reliant Emerson points out, in his latter part of his essay, that only common youth are not enough to create a new society. What is needed is the youth endowed with self-reliance. Whoso would be a man must be a non conformist. Emerson several times emphasizes this necessarily of b

9、eing a non conformist. Meanwhile, he presents several ways in the essay of being self-reliant. First, a person ought to go upright and speaks to truth in all ways. Second, trust your self. Third, insist yourself; never imitate.第7頁(yè)/共11頁(yè)第七頁(yè),共12頁(yè)。 Through the whole essay, Emerson makes us believe: with

10、 the exercise of self-reliance, new powers shall appear. Just as he says in the end of his essay: It is easy to see that a greater self-reliance must work a revolution in all the offices and relations of men; in their religion; in their pursuits; their modes of living; their association; in their pr
