6、interested in knowing about world records. they want to know about the biggest, smallest, fastest, slowest, longest, shortest, oldest and youngest. the first book of this kind was the gunnies book of world records. the idea for this book came from hugh beaver. one day, after watching some birds, he

7、told his friends that he thought those birds were probably the fastest birds in britain. several of his friends disagreed with him. however, when they tried to solve the problem by looking it up, they found none of the books they had contained the information that they were looking for. as a result,

8、 hugh beaver decided to put out a book that would contain all kinds of world records. hugh beaver began to look for someone who could help him writethe book. soon he heard of two brothers who had a small fact agency in london. they worked on finding and checking facts for people. hugh beaver went to

9、interview the two brothers and found their knowledge amazing. he offered them jobs in his company. on august 27, 1955, the gunnies book of world records went on sale. in four months it became a best -seller.sir hugh beavermaybe, one of you will be a guinness record breaker this year!ashrita & sr

12、non-athlete, i never imagined ever actually getting a world record myself. years later, as a teenager, i became interested in eastern spirituality and began studying meditation with sri chinmoy. suddenly, i was filled with an inner joy and a seemingly inexhaustible energy. sri chinmoy also taught me

13、 about his philosophy of self-transcendence, that when you have access to the divine power we all have within us, nothing is impossible. under my teachers guidance, i eventually learned how to incorporate my newfound energy into my spiritual life while pursuing athletic goals, and i realized that it

14、 was time to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a guinness record-holder. in 1979 i set my first record by doing 27,000 jumping jacks, and it was such a thrill that i immediately began training for the nextrecord and i havent stopped since! i have also been fortunate enough to travel with the gr

15、oup that often accompanies sri chinmoy on his international concert tours of music dedicated to world harmony, and ive had the opportunity to set records at some of the most magnificent wonders of the world. now read about a man called ashrita furman who has broken guinness records in all these acti
