Unit 6一、課文The small boys illness seemed not too serious. Yet he was clearly very worried about something. Ill see you when Im dressed. “你先去睡。我穿好衣服來看你?！?But when I came downstairs he was dressed, sitting by the fire, looking a very sick and miserable boy of nine years. When I put my hand on his forehead I knew he had a fever.可是當(dāng)我來到樓下時，他已穿好衣服，坐在火爐旁。這個9歲的男孩，看上去病得厲害，一副可憐的模樣。我用手摸了摸他的額頭，知道他發(fā)燒了。 You go up to bed, I said, Youre sick. “你到樓上去睡，”我說，“你病了?！?Im all right, he said. “我沒有病，”他說。 When the doctor came he took the boys temperature. 醫(yī)生來后，量了孩子的體溫。 What is it? I asked him. “多少度?”我問醫(yī)生。 One hundred and two. “102度?！?Downstairs, the doctor left three different medicines in different colored capsules with instructions for giving them. One was to bring down the fever, another a purgative, the third to overcome an acid condition. The germs of influenza can only exist in an acid condition, he explained. He seemed to know all about influenza and said there was nothing to worry about if the fever did not go above one hundred and four degrees. If you want to, said the boy. His face was very white and there were dark areas under his eyes. I asked him. “你感覺怎么樣，寶貝?”我問他。 Just the same, so far, he said. “到目前為止，還是老樣子，”他說。 I sat at the foot of the bed and read to myself while I waited for it to be time to give another capsule. It would have been natural for him to go to sleep, but when I looked up he was looking at the foot of the bed, looking very strangely. 我坐在床的腳端自個兒看書，等著到時間再給他服一粒藥丸。按理，他本該睡著了。然而，當(dāng)我抬頭看時，他卻雙眼盯著床的腳端，神情異常。 Why dont you try to sleep? Some of the covey lit in trees, but most of them scattered into brush piles and it was necessary to jump on the ice-coated mounds of brush several times before they would flush. It was one hundred and two and four tenths.“大約一百，”我說。實際上是102度4分。 It was a hundred and two, he said. “原先是102度，”他說。 Who said so? “誰說的?” The doctor. “醫(yī)生?！?Your temperature is all right, I said. He was evidently holding tight onto himself about something.“我沒有什么不放心的，”他說著，眼睛直盯著前方。顯然，他有什么心事，但在盡力控制著自己。 Take this with water. “將這個用水吞下?！?Do you think it will do any good? “你看這有用嗎?” Of course it will. “當(dāng)然有用?！?I sat down and opened the Pirate book and commenced to read, but I could see he was not following, so I stopped.我坐下來，打開了海盜故事，開始讀給他聽，但我看得出來他不在聽，于是我停了下來。 About what time do you think Im going to die? he asked.“你看我大概什么時候會死?”他問道。 What? “什么?” About how long will it be before I die? “到我死大概還有多少時間?” You arent going to die.
