In last month, they have learned vocabulary of Unit 3 gradually. They have already been able to use English for daily communication. What is more, in Geography class, they have been familiar with great rivers so they are capable of talking about rivers in the world.Main Focus1. To practice students spoken English and active their geography knowledge about rivers.2.Enable students to grasp the main idea and comprehend specific information of the passage.Anticipated Learner Difficulty Students are not familiar with Mekong River, so it is necessary to introduce the river briefly.Overall Lesson Objectives 1. Students will be motivated and cooperate well2. Students will be familiar with new words and structure in class.Aims Knowledge Topic Students will be able to talk about the topic: Travelling and riverVocabularyStudents will learn the following vocabulary: journal, transport, prefer, disadvantage, fare, flow, persuade, cycle, graduate, finally, schedule, fond, shortcoming, stubborn, organize, determined, journey, altitude, valley, pace, bendFunction Students will be able to talk about travel plans.Skills 1 Students will learn to use the title to predict before reading.2 Students will learn to find key information from the reading passage.Learning Strategies 1 Students will be aware of the importance of the title.2 Students will be able to learn how to predict the content.Affective Attitude1 Students will learn to experience more in travelling.2 Students will learn to plan for a travel carefully.Cultural AwarenessStudents will learn great rivers in the world.IISummary of Lesson ProceduresPart 1: Lead-inIntroduce six great rivers briefly by map.Part 2: Interpretation and explanationWarming up (3questions to discuss)Extensive reading 1. To introduce the topic of Unit3. 2. To arouse students interest. Part 2: Interpretation and explanationWarming up (Discuss three questions)Timing 10 minutesProcedures First, if you had the chance to travel among these rivers, which river would you choose? And your reasons.Second, suppose you were already there, which kind of transport would you prefer? And your reasons.Last, what are the usages of river? Discuss in group of four.Aims1. To have a better understanding of rivers in the world.2. To practice students oral English.3. To encourage students to travel more.Extensive reading.Part1. Lead in.Timing 1 minute.Procedures Introduce a new river in the map-Mekong River.In China, it is called Lancang river. In southeastern Asia, it is called Mekong river. In the world, it is also called Danube of the east, do you know the reason?Now, lets travel in the new river together. My friend Wang kun also wants to travel there. Read paragraph 2 silently and analyze the character of Wang Kun and Wang Wei and supporting details.Analyze Paragraph 3. Read paragraph 3 and divide the river into several parts. After reading, invite a student to draw the landscape of Mekong river. And ask others to divide the river into three parts and describe its characteristics. For example, in first part, the river is clear and cold.AimsTo get the main ideas of each paragraph and understand the passage in a more vivid way.Part 3: Homework and ending words.
