FreewritingAfterstudentshavegatheredenoughideas,theyneedtowriteamoredetailedoutline.Anoutlineusuallyillustratesthemainorganisingstructureandthemostimportantpointsoftheessay.Itmayincludethemainideaofeachparagraphwithtopicsentencesandnotesforsupportingdetails.Itmayalsoincludeanintroductionandaconclusion.Anoutlineneednotbefixeditcanbechangedifthewriterhasbetterideas.

OutliningAfterstudentshavedevelopedanoutlineoftheessay,theycanstarttowrite.Theyshouldbegivenenoughtimetowritethefirstdraft.Atthisstage,thedevelopmentofideasaremoreimportantthangettinggrammaticalstructures,punctuationorspellingcorrect.

Drafting

Editingisthestagewhenstudentsreadthroughtheirwritingsandchecktheclarityofideasorthelogicaldevelopmentoftheirarguments.Also,studentscheckcarefullythegrammar,spelling,andpunctuationoftheirwritings.
