Introduction

5G,asacrucialinfrastructuresupportingthedigitalization,networking,andintelligenttransformationoftheeconomyandsociety,playsavitalroleindrivinghigh-qualityeconomicandsocialdevelopment.Theconstructionof5Gnetworksisgraduallytransitiontodeepnessandprecisedivision,alongwiththecontinuousexpansionofuserscaleandbusinessapplication.Otherthancrowdedplacessuchastransportationhubsandbustlingshoppingmalls,lotsofindoorscenariosarenotsensitivetocapacitywhilestrongdemandonlowercost.Foroutdoorscenarios,theinvestmentreturnrateontraditionalmacrositeistoolowforrural,mountainousandborderareaswherehaveasparsepopulation.Thecost-effectivenessof5Gnetworkconstructioninthesescenariosneedstobeimprovedimmediately.Inrecentyears,mainproblemintelecommunicationsindustryisrelatedonhowtoplantheperformanceof5Gnetworkreasonably,howtorelieveinvestmentpressure,andhowtoimprovethecost-effectivenessof5Gnetworkconstruction.5Gnetworkoperatorsandequipmentvendorsfocusonrefinementandandcost-effectiveofnetworkproducts,activeoncontinuousinnovation,developaseriesof

low-costproductsolutionsgradually,andbuildaubiquitousandboutique5Gnetwork.

The5GFemtodescribedinthiswhitepaperisanlocalareabasestation,ItcanutilizefixedbroadbandorotherIPnetworkstransmission,plugandplay,toachieve5Gdeepcoverageinindoorplacessuchashomes,shops,smallandmedium-sizedenterprises,andcanalsoutilizesatellitetransmissiontoachievecontinuouscoverageof5Gsignalsinspecialscenariossuchasseaareas,mountainousareas,andemergencysituationsatlowcostandhighefficiency,

providinguserswithstable,safe,andhigh-qualitywirelesscommunicationservices.

Femtocell,alsocalledhomebasestation,originatedfrom3G.Itismainlyproposedtoaddresstheindoorcoverageshortagecausedbythehigherfrequencybandof3Gsystemscomparedto2Gsystems,aswellasthechallengeofdivertingvoiceanddataservicesfromWiFitechnology.TheFemtoCellcanaccessoperator’snetworkbyutilizingDSL,cables,orfiber,therebyenhancingindoorsignalanddatatransmissionrates.Comparedwithtraditionalbasestations,FemtoCellisinexpensiveandhasbecomeanimportantsolutionforimprovingindoor

signals.

4Gwirelessdatatraffichasrapidgrowth,with70%ofbusinessoccurringinindoorscenarios.Therapidpopularizationofhigh-speedmultimediaserviceshasputforwardhigherrequirementsfornetworkcoverageandcapacity.Thetraditionalcellularnetwork,whichmainlyreliesonthecoverageofmacrostations,ispronetoblindspotsorinsufficientcoverageinsomediscreteindoorscenarios.Theconstructionandoperationcostsofusingmacrostationsarerelativelyhigh,andthedifficultyofbuildingpropertycoordinationusingindoordistributionsystemsishigh,

resultinginlargeconstructionandrenovationcosts.Asanewforceinindoorcoverage,4GFemto

canmakeupforthelackofdeepcoverageinmacrocells,increasetheARPUvalueofsingleusers,andreducetheOPEXandCAPEXofoperators.Theyhaveachievedrapiddevelopmentinthe4G

period.

inthe5Gera,withthegradualpopularizationofapplicationssuchasultra-highdefinitionlivestreaming,videoconferencing,onlineeducation,homemonitoring,aswellascloudgamesandvirtualreality,high-speedandlowlatencyapplicationshavebecomeincreasinglyrigiddemands,5GFemtointegratesnewgenerationwirelesscommunicationtechnology,whichcanprovidewirelesscommunicationserviceswithhigherspeed,lowerlatency,andlargercapacity.CombinedwithexcellentnetworkslicingandQoSguaranteecapabilities,itcanbettermeetthediversenetworkneedsofvariousindustries.Atthesametime,withthedevelopmentofgreenenergyconservationinthecommunicationindustryandthecurrentglobalcarbonneutralitybackground,low-powerFemtocanachievenetworkcoverageandcapacitythroughplugandplay,

whichismoreacceptabletousersandhasabroaderdevelopmentprospect.

1.2.5GFemtoIndustrialStatus

Asakindofcost-effectivesolutionforindoorcoverageenhancement,5GFemtosolutionhasreachtheconsensusofICTindustry.Atfirst,theindustryheatisnowemerging.Secondly,industrialstandardisgraduallyconstructedandimproved.Thirdly,chipsetsolutionsarebecomingmoreandmorediverse.5GFemtoProductshavematuredandtheindustrialecologyisgradually

prospering.

1.2.1.StandardSpecification

3GPPbegantoworkontheFemtobasestation(HNB)standardin2007.Later,3GPP4GLTEnamedFemtobasestationasHeNB,andbroadcastHeNBinformationtomarkthetypeofHeNBstationintheradiointerface.ItintroducedtheconceptofCSG(ClosedSubscriberGroup)tosupportblackandwhitenamelistbasedaccessandfeaturesofinteroperability.Atthesametime,theoptionalHeNBGWfunctionisintroducedintowirelessarchitecturetoadapttodifferentbackhaulingnetworkscenarios.Inthe3GPP5GNRstandard,RAN4hasincludedtheFemtoRF

indexinthedefinitionofLocalareabasestation.

CCSAinChinahasdevelopedaseriesofstandardsforTD-LTEFemtocellinthe4Gera.In

2022,Ithascompletedthetechnicalresearchfor5GFemtocell,thenlaunchedthe5GFemtocellindustrystandardprojectin2023.ChinaMobilehasformulatedenterprisestandardsfor5G

Femtocellandgatewayin2023.

1.2.2.ChipsetSolution

Inthe4Gera,Therearematurechipsetsolutions,Broadcom,Qualcomm,Intelandothersmallbasestationchipsetshavebeenwidelyused.5Gchipindustryisinahigh-speeddevelopmentstage,andmanymanufacturersarecommittedtodevelopinghigh-performancechipsetsupporting5Gtechnologytomeettheneedsofhigh-speeddatatransmissionand

low-latencycommunication.

Atpresent,QualcommandNXPhavematurechipsetsfor5GFemto,andtheirchipsetsandsoftwarehavereachedthecommercialstate.Inaddition,severalchipsetschemesofSmartLogic,PicocomandUltichipinChinahaveproductsorareunderdevelopment.5GFemtochipsetsshowatrendofincreasingintegration,evolvingtoaone-piecesolutionthatsupportsmulti-mode,multi-bandandcoversbasebandandhigh-levelprotocolstackfunctions,makingtheequipmentmorecompactandenergy-saving,providinghigherperformanceandcapacity,andsupportingvariouscommunicationtechnologiestoprovideuserswithmorecomprehensivecoverageandservices.Itisbelievedthatwiththedevelopmentof5Gtechnologyand

semiconductorindustry,moremanufacturersmayemergeinthefuturetolaunchnewsolutions.

1.2.3.Products

Theminiaturizationandflexibilityofthe5GFemtomakeitanideallow-costsolutiontofillthecoveragegapandprovidehigh-speeddataservices.Operatorsandequipmentmanufacturers

haveannouncedcorrespondingsolutionsandproductstoembracethisexpectedmarket.

In2022,ChinaMobileofficiallyreleasedtheworld'sfirst2.6GHz5GFemto,andfurtherreleased4G/5Gdual-modecommercialFemtoproductin2023,whichcanachieveDL800MbpsandUL230Mbpsthroughput.NOKIA,SAMSUNG,T&W,SAGERAN,Baicellsandotheroperatorsandequipmentvendorshavealsoreleasedtheir5GFemtoseriesproducts.Inaddition,moreandmorevendorssuchasCombaandRuijiehavealsojoinedtheresearchanddevelopmentprogram,

promotingthefurtherdevelopmentoftechnologyandequipmentcostreduction.

2.RequirementsAnalysis

2.1.ResidentialScenarios

Aspreviouslydiscussed,therearedualchallengesincurrentresidentialscenarios.Ontheonehand,certainresidentialsettingsexperienceissuesofweakcoverageandblindspots.Ontheotherhand,withthegradualwidespreadadoptionofapplicationssuchasultra-high-definitionlivestreaming,videoconferencing,onlineeducation,cloudgaming,andevenvirtualreality,thedemandfornetworkswithhighdatarates,lowlatency,andextensivecapacityhasbecomean

essentialrequirement.

Consideringtheinconvenienceassociatedwithdeployingtransmissionlineswithinresidentialenvironmentsandthevariableplacementofdevices,thereisanotabledemandforequipmentdeploymentthatisflexible,convenient,environmentallyfriendly,andenergy-efficient.5GFemtohavethecapabilitytoleverageexistingresidentialbroadbandnetworksforBackhaul,andenablethePlugandPlayfeature,theysignificantlymitigatethechallengesandcostsofdeployment.Thisallowsfortherapidattainmentofcomprehensiveindoorcoverage,whileboastingattributessuchascompactandaestheticallypleasingdesigns,lowpowerconsumption,

andthecapacityforeffectivemanagementandcontrol.Assuch,theystandasapreferredand

optimalsolution.

2.2.RetailScenarios

Withthewidespreadadoptionofmobilesmartterminalssuchassmartphonesandtablets,alongwiththerapidproliferationofserviceslikemobilepayments,short-formvideocontent,cloudgaming,andextendedreality(XR),thereisapronounceddemandforhigh-qualitynetworksinvariouscontexts.Thisdemandextendstotraditionalretailspaceslikeshops,restaurants,and

andbusinesshalls,aswellasemergingvenueslikeimmersivegamingexperiencesandtemporary

e-Sportscompetitions.Theseestablishmentsseekrobustnetworkconnectivitytoenhancetheirbrandimageandprovidefinely-tailoredcustomerservices,thusunlockingadditionalavenuesfor

businessgrowth.

Theretailenvironmentischaracterizedbyitsinherentcomplexityandnumerousinternalpartitions.Itissusceptibletosignalattenuationduetoarchitecturalobstructionsandgeographicalbarriers,leadingtosignificantsignalpenetrationlossesandtheemergenceofsignaldeadzoneswithin.Incommercialzoneswithhighfoottraffic,wirelesssignalcongestioncanoccur,significantlycompromisingtheuserexperience.Addressingthesediscreteareasofweakcoverageandblindspotsusingadistributedsmallcellapproachoftenrequiressubstantialinvestment.Moreover,installationworksuchaslayingcablesanddrillingholescandisruptthe

aestheticappealofstoreinteriors,causinginconveniencesforbusinessowners.

5GFemtodoesnotrequirenewtransmissionlines.byutilizingtheexistingbroadbandinfrastructure,it'spossibletoachievecomprehensivecoverageofretailspacesquicklyandatalowcost,anddeliverhigh-speed,stable,secure,andhigh-capacitynetworks,ultimatelyenhancingtheuserexperience.5GFemtowithmmWaveisattractivetooffloadtrafficbyco-channeldeploymentinthisscenario,becausetheinter-cellinterferenceismitigatednaturally

bylargepenetrationloss.

2.3.IsolatedIslandScenarios

Limitedspacessuchaselevatorsandbasementsareenclosingenvironment,andoutdoormacroandindoorbasestationsignalscan'tpenetratein,soitiseasytobecomewirelesssignalcoverageoftheislandblindarea.Insuchregions,thereisastronguserperceptionforuninterruptedcoverage,makingthemfrequentsourcesofnetworkcomplaints.Thesescenariostypicallyinvolvefewerusers,shortstaydurations,andlowerdatademands,thusemphasizingthe

needforcost-effectivecoveragesolutions.Additionally,theclosureoflimitedspaceisnot

Withthelarge-scaledeploymentandapplicationof5G,thedemandforcoverageinuniquesettingssuchasseaareasandmountainousregionsisbecomingincreasinglyurgent.Determininghowtoaccomplish5Gcoverageinthesespecializedscenarioswithminimalresourcesand

investmentshasbecomeakeyareaoffocus.

Typicalapplicationscenariosencompassawiderange,includinglow-trafficexpansiveareaslikeoceans,mountainousregions,andplateaus;hazardousenvironmentslikeoil,gas,petrochemical,andcoalminingsites;andemergencysituationssuchasfirefighting,rescueoperations,anddisasterrelief.Diversescenariospresentdistinctrequirementsfornetwork

equipment.

5GFemto,duetotheiradvantagesofbeingcost-effective,energy-efficient,easytodeployandmaintain,andcapableofplug-and-playoperationthroughexistingfixedbroadbandor

satellitebackhaul,arewell-positionedtopromptlyandeffectivelyfulfillthesevaryingdemands.

Thedefiningcharacteristicofwide-arealow-trafficscenariossuchasseaare,mountainousregions,andplateausistheoveralllowtrafficvolumespreadacrosstheseareas.Thesescenarios

exhibitaheighteneddemandforseamlesscoveragecommunication,particularlycriticalin

emergencysituations,yetsporadicinstancesofelevatedtrafficdemandscanalsoarise.Challengesencompassbothtransmissionandpowersupplyinsuchenvironments,andthereisa

substantialneedforbasestationequipmentwithlowpowerconsumptionandflexiblebackhaul

methods.

.HazardousEnvironments

Theintelligentconstructionwithinhazardousenvironments,suchasoilandgas,petrochemical,andcoalminingsites,underscoresacompellingdemandforhigh-quality5Gcommunication.Theseenvironmentsarecharacterizedbyadverseconditions,oftenfeaturingelevatedtemperatures,highhumidity,andsubstantialdustlevels.On-sitesituationsarecomplex,characterizedbyhighuncertaintyandsignificantdangerfactors.Furthermore,thesescenariosencounterlimitationsinavailablespace.Assuch,thereisanurgentrequirementforbasestationequipmentwithasimplifiednetworkstructurethatallowsforagiledeploymentandstraightforwardmaintenance.Thesestationsmustnotonlymeetsafetyrequirementsforexplosion-proofingbutalsominimizedeploymentcomplexitiesandmaintenanceworkloads.Thisdualfocusonsafetyandefficiencyisessentialinachievingsecureandeffectiveoperationswithin

suchhigh-riskenvironments.

Withinemergencyscenarioslikefirefighting,rescueoperations,anddisasterrelief,thedemandforcommunicationisnotlongerlimitedtothevoiceintercomforkeycommunication.Withreal-timeimageanddatatransmissionbecomingpivotalforfrontlinecommanddecisions,theroleofintelligentemergencyrobotshastranscendedhumanlimitations,allowingthemtooperatewithinperilousenvironmentsandperformvarioustasks.Suchcontextscallforbasestationequipmentthatisreadilydeployablewithouttheneedforinstallation,

capableofquicklyprovidingcommunicationservicesandreal-timeimagetransmission.

5GFemtonetworkarchitecturediagramisasfollows.Themainnetworkelementsinclude5GFemto,securitygateway,signalinggateway,andnetworkmanagementsystem.5GFemtocanaccessthecorenetworkthroughthededicatedtransmissionnetworksforoperator,whichbelongstothetrusteddomainnetwork.Thesecuritygatewayisanoptionalnetworkelementinthiscase.ItcanalsoaccessthecorenetworkthroughfixedbroadbandorotherIPnetworks,whichbelongstotheuntrusteddomainnetwork.Inthiscase,thesecuritygatewayisamandatoryelement.The5GFemtoandsecuritygatewayestablishIPsectunnelstoencryptdata

packetsandprotectdatasecurity.
