MarkTwainleftschoolwhenhewastwelve.Hehadlittleschooleducation.Inspiteofthis,hebecamethemostfamouswriterofhistime.Hemademillionsofdollarsbywriting.HisrealnamewasSamuelLanghorneClemens,butheisbetterknownallovertheworldasMarkTwain,hispenname.

MarkTwainwasbornin1835andhewasnotahealthybaby.Infact,hewasnotexpectedtolivethroughthefirstwinter.Butwithhismother'stendercare,hemanagedtosurvive.Asaboy,hecausedmuchtroubleforhisparents.Heusedtoplayjokesonallofhisfriendsandneighbours.Hedidn'tliketogotoschool,andheconstantlyranawayfromhome.HealwayswentinthedirectionofthenearbyMississippi(密西西比河).Hewasnearlydrowned(淹死)ninetimes.

Afterhisfather’sdeathin1847,Marktwainbegantoworkforaprinter(印刷商),whoonlyprovidedhimwithfoodandclothing.Then,heworkedasaprinter,ariver－boatpilot(領(lǐng)航員)andlaterjoinedthearmy.Butshortlyafterthathebecameaminer(礦工).Duringthisperiod,hestartedtowriteshortstories.Afterwardshebecameafull--timewriter.

In1870,MarkTwaingotmarried.IntheyearsthatfollowedhewrotemanybooksincludingTomSawyerin1876,andHuckleberryFinnin1884,whichmadehimfamous,andbroughthimagreatfortune.

Unfortunately,MarkTwaingotintodebtsinbadinvestments(投資)andhehadtowritelargenumbersofstoriestopaythesedebts.In1904,hiswifedied,andthenthreeoftheirchildrenpassedaway.

Attheageof70,hishairwascompletelywhite.Heboughtmanywhitesuitsandneckties.HeworenothingbutwhitefromheadtofootuntilhisdeathonApril21,1910.
