Denmark'semergencynumberis112.CallcenterworkerscanuseHeartrunnertocontactupto20volunteerswithin1.1milesofanemergency.Workersalsosendoutanambulance.TheyoftentellthecallerhowtostartCPR.Heartrunnersendsanalert(警報(bào))tovolunteers.Itasks,“Canyourun”Ifapersonsaysyes,theappsendstheaddress.IfthereisanAEDnearby,theapptellsvolunteerswheretofindit.

Morethan100,000peopleinDenmarkvolunteerforHeartrunner.About75%ofthemarenothealthcareworkers.That'sOK,saidexpertFreddyLippert.“Thepatientisdead,andifyoudon'tdoanything,nineoutof10willbedeadforever.ThefasterCPRbegins,thebetterthechanceofrestartingtheheart.InDenmark,everydaypeoplerespondedfasterthanprofessionalstomorethanfourin10heartattacks.”

ErikKaxe,81,livesinasmallDanishtown.Recently,hisheartstopped.Hiswifecalled112.Theambulancewassent.AndtheHeartrunneralertwentout.Withinminutes,10strangerswholivednearbyshowedupattheirhouse.Theambulancecame17minutesafterthecall.SomanyhelpersshowedupthattheywereabletodofarmorethanjustCPR.Whentheambulanceshowedup,Kaxewasbreathingagain.Helivedandisnowbackathome.

“Dyingwasn'tdifficult,”hesaid.“Butwakingupis.”
