愚公移山是記載在《列子·湯問篇》·中的一篇古代故事。在冀州的南部,黃河的北岸,有兩座高山叫做太行和王屋。太行、王屋這兩座山,方圓,七百里,高七八千丈。北山有一位叫愚公的人,年紀(jì)將近九十歲,面對著山居住。他苦于大山北面交通不便,進(jìn)進(jìn)出出都要繞遠(yuǎn)路,就召集全家來商量盡全力鏟除險峻的大山,使道路一直通向豫州的南部,到達(dá)漢水南岸。大家紛紛表示贊成。于是愚公率領(lǐng)子孫鑿石挖掘泥土,用畚箕裝了土石運(yùn)到渤海的邊上。冬夏換季,才往返一次。
河灣上一位叫智叟的老頭譏笑愚公并制止他干這件事,說:“你太不聰明了!就憑你衰殘的年齡和剩下的力量,連山上的一棵草都不能損壞,又能把這兩座大山上的土石怎么樣。呢?”愚公長嘆說:“你思想頑固。即使我死了,我還有兒子在;兒子又生孫子,孫子又生兒子;兒子又有兒子,兒子又有孫子;子子孫孫沒有窮盡,然而山卻不會加大增高,愁什么山挖不平?”智叟沒有話來回答。
山神聽說了這件事,怕愚公他們不停地挖下去,將這件事告訴了天帝。天帝被他的誠心所感動,命令大力神夸娥氏的兩個兒子背負(fù)著兩座山,一座放在朔東,一座放在雍南。從此,冀州的南部,(到)漢水南岸,沒有山崗高地阻隔了。
