canyon,theywerekilledbyIndians.Therestofthegroupwasluckyto
survive.Starvingandtired,theyreachedtheendofthe
canyon.TheyhadtraveledontheColoradoRiverformorethanthreemonths.JohnWesleyPowell'sreportsandmapsfromthetripmadehimfamous.TheyalsogreatlyincreasedinterestintheGrandCanyon.Butvisitorsdidnotbegintogotothereinlargenumbersuntilnineteen-oh-one.Thatwaswhena
railroad

canyon.TheHualapaibuilttheSkywalktogainmoneybygettingmorepeopletovisitits
reservation.Thetribesaysthearea,calledGrand
Canyon
West,will
include
alargevisitors'center,restaurants,andpossiblyhotelsinthefuture.SomepeoplesaytheSkywalkisanengineeringwonder.However,otherpeoplehave
criticized
theSkywalkandfuturedevelopment.
TheysayitharmsanationaltreasureandreducestheenjoymentofnatureintheGrand
