Socotra(Suqu?ra),alsospelledSoqotra,isasmallarchipelago(群島)offourislandsintheIndianOcean.Thelargestisland,alsocalledSocotra,isabout95%ofthelandmassofthearchipelago.Ithasbeendescribedas"themostalien-lookingplaceonEarth".Theislandmeasures132kilometresinlengthand49.7kilometresinwidth.SocotraispartofYemen.Theislandisveryisolatedandathirdofitsplantlifeisfoundnowhereelseontheplanet.

Dragon‘sBloodtrees,prizedforitsredmedicinalsap(樹液),theDragon’sBloodisthemoststrikingof900plantspeciesontheSocotraislands.Dragon‘sBloodTree,thesourceofvaluableresinforvarnishes(上漆),dyes（染色）,and“cure-all”medicine;also(predictably)usedinmedievalritualmagicandalchemy（點金術(shù)）.Thebranchesspreadoutintotheskyandfrombelowappeartohoveroverthelandscapelikesomanyflyingsaucers（飛碟）...andfromabovetheyhaveadistinctmushroomlook.Socotran“desertroses”,whoseobesetrunksareadaptedtostorewater.HereisalsotheDesertRosewhichlookslikenothingsomuchasabloomingelephantleg。
