Section1–Introduction

1A. PolicyandVisionItisthepolicyofTRWtoachieveaclearcompetitiveadvantagethroughcontinuousimprovementinquality,service,deliveryandcostfromoursuppliersinthetotalsupplychain.ItisthevisionofTRWthatsuppliersshall:

DoitRightEveryTimebyassuringconsistentqualityproductsandservicesthroughaddressingallconcerns.

ContinuallyImprovebyproactivelyimprovingthequalityandvalueofproductsandservices.1B. PurposeThepurposeofthisGlobalSupplierQualityManual(GSQM)istospecifyTRWAutomotivequalitysystemrequirementsforoursuppliers.Theserequirementsextendfromsupplierqualification,tonewproductdevelopment,toproduction.1C. ScopeThismanualappliestoallDirectmaterial/servicesuppliers.ThismanualappliestoIndirectmaterial/servicesuppliersonlywhenitisrequiredbyaTRWPurchaseOrder.1D. Responsibility

SuppliersareresponsibleformeetingtheGSQMrequirements.Failuretomeettheserequirementsmayresultinthelossofexistingand/orfutureTRWbusiness,inadditiontoreimbursementofthecosttoTRWresultingfromthosefailures.

Suppliersshallensurethattheirdirectmaterial/servicesupplierscomplywiththerequirementsofISO/TS16949:2002.

SuppliersshalladoptthestandardsofZeroDefectsand100%OnTimeDeliverytoTRW.SuppliersshallunderstandthatanyestablishedPPMtargetisnotanAcceptedQualityLevel,butrepresentsanintermediatecontinuousimprovementsteptowardshipmentofcomponents/materialsmeetingtheZeroDefectsrequirement.1E. LanguageTRWAutomotive’sofficiallanguageisEnglish.AllofficialcommunicationwithTRWwillbedoneinEnglish.Documentsmaydisplaythenativelanguagewhenintegratedinparalleltranslation.Inthisinstance,theEnglishistheonlyvalidversion.1F. GlobalSupplierDevelopmentProcessTRWAutomotiveGlobalSupplierDevelopmentfollowsaseriesofprocesses/proceduresthathavebeendefinedastheTRWAutomotiveSupplierDevelopmentManagementProcesses.ThisdetailsthemethodsandtoolsusedbySupplierDevelopmentandSupplierQualityfromtheinitialassessmentatapotentialnewsupplierthroughlaunchandintointensivesupplierimprovementandtacticalmonitoringwithinoperations.Thehorizontalaxisofthefigurefollowstheproductdevelopmentstages,startingwithConceptValidation.Figure1.GlobalSupplierDevelopmentManagementProcess

TRWAutomotive’sproductdevelopmentprocess,GlobalDevelopmentProductIntroductionManagement(GDPIM),initiateswiththequotingprocesstoourcustomers.Onceaprogramisawarded,engineeringworksonconceptstomeetthecustomers’specificationsandrequirements.Theprocesscontinuesontovalidationofthedesign.DesignValidation(DV)buildstakeplaceduringthisstage.Nextisthedevelopmentoftheproductandtheprocess.TRWfacilitiesareinstallingtheassemblyequipment,engineeringisworkingtogetherwiththecustomertoassuretheproductmeetsallperformanceandappearance,whereapplicable,requirements.Duringthisstagesuppliersaredevelopingtheirtoolingandprocessestoprovidematerialforfutureserialproduction.Alsoduringthisperiod,manysupplierswillberequiredtosupplycomponents/materialsforequipmenttryoutsandproductvalidation(PV)buildsandtesting.Suppliershouldalsobeconstructingramp-upplanstomeetinitialproductionrequirementsandcreatingcontingencyplanstoaddresscatastrophiceventsthatwouldpreventthesupplyofmaterialsundernormalproductionconditions.AftertheapprovaloftheProductionPartApprovalProcess(PPAP)package,andwiththestartofserialproduction,manysupplierswillparticipateinSafeLaunchPlanning.Forapre-determinedperiodoftimeornumberofcomponents,thesupplierandtheTRWfacilitieswillemployanexpandedinspectionprocessonkeycharacteristics.OncetheprogramtransitionsfromLaunchintoProduction,thesuppliershallcontinuetousethevalidatedprocess.Anychangestothatprocess,seeSupplierRequestforChange(2C.2),requiresTRW’sapprovalbeforethechangeisimplemented.Supplierswhoseperformanceduringthisphasedoesnotmeetagreedupongoalsandmetricswillbesubjecttooneormoreintensiveimprovementtools.

1G. GovernmentRegulatoryComplianceSuppliersshallcomplywithallapplicablegovernmentalregulations.Theseregulationsrelatetothehealthandsafetyoftheworkers,environmentprotection,toxicandhazardousmaterials,andfreetrade.Suppliersshouldrecognizethattheapplicablegovernmentregulationsmightincludethoseinthecountryofmanufacture,aswellthecountryofsale.RegistrationtoISO14001isstronglyrecommended.1H. End-of-LifeVehicle(ELV)/InternationalMaterialDataSystem(IMDS)ReportingTheEnd-of-LifeVehicle(ELV)Directive,2000/53/EC,wasenactedbytheEuropeanCommission"tominimizetheimpactofend-of-lifevehiclesontheenvironment."Theuseoflead,mercury,cadmium,andhexavalentchromiumareprohibitedinvehiclesandtheircomponents,exceptforcertainexemptionspublishedinAnnexIIoftheDirective.ThisisamandatedrequirementforEuropeanUnion(EU)MemberStatesandalsorequiredbyNorthAmerican,andsomeJapanese,vehiclemanufacturers.Additionally,otherlegalrequirements,suchasEUDirectives2002/95/EC,2002/96/EC,and2003/11/ECrestricttheuseofcertainflameretardantsubstances:polybrominatedbiphenyls(PBBs)andpolybrominateddiphenylethers(PBDEs).PBBsorPBDEsshallnotbepresentincomponentsormaterialssuppliedtoTRWAutomotive.SuppliersinallregionsshallensurethatallcomponentsandmaterialssuppliedtoanyTRWAutomotivefacilitycomplywiththeabove-mentionedlegalrequirements.TRWAutomotivehasdevelopednewlead-freespecificationstodefinethematerials,processingandperformanceoflead-freecomponentsthatarepurchasedforuseinlead-freesolderingenvironments(refertoTRWLead-FreePerformanceRequirements).Suppliersofaffectedcomponentsshallmeetthelead-freespecifications.Toensurecompliancewiththevariouslegalandcustomerrequirements,TRWAutomotiverequiresitssupplierstoreportinformationonmaterialswithintheirrespectivecomponents.TheInternationalMaterialDataSystem(IMDS)hasbeendevelopedbyvehiclemanufacturerstocollectandmanagethisdata.SuppliersshallsubmittherequiredELVdatatoTRWAutomotiveassoonaspossibleuponawardofnewbusiness,butinanycasepriortothePPAPsubmission.ThesupplieraspartofthePPAPsubmissionshallprovideconfirmationtoTRW’sacceptanceoftheELVdata.Refertosection2B.4,ProductionPartApprovalProcess(PPAP)forfurtherexplanationofthesubmissionrequirements.

IJ. EuropeanQualityAssuranceAgreementThisagreementshallberequested,fromallsupplierstoTRW’sEuropeanorganization.Itcontrolssuppliers’andTRW’sresponsibilitiesandtasksforthekeyqualityprocessesinrespecttotheGlobalSupplierQualityManualandthelegalrequirementsofspecificcountries.ThesupplierisresponsibleforreviewoftheQualityAssuranceAgreement,whenprovided.

1K. GeneralThismanualis'distributed'onlyviathepostingontheTRWwebsiteat/.Printedcopiesareuncontrolleddocuments.WhileTRWwillcommunicatetothesuppliersmajorrevisionstothismanual,thesuppliersareexpectedtoremainuptodateonTRWrequirementsbyfrequentlyvisitingtheTRWwebsite.VisitingthiswebsiteshouldbecomeabusinessroutineasTRWshiftstowebbasedcommunicationsandapplications.QuestionsregardingthismanualshouldbedirectedtotheTRWcontactslistedontheTRWwebsite/.

Section2-TRWAutomotiveRequirementsTRWAutomotivebasesitssupplymanagementrequirementsonfourkeyprocesses.Thesearethesupplierselectionprocess,newproductlaunch,continuousimprovement,andsupplierintensiveimprovement.Thesekeyprocessesareglobalinnature,asareanyoftheirreferencedprocedures.Insomeinstances,becauseofuniquesystemconfigurations,productlinesandregionsmayhavespecificprocesses,procedures,and/orformsthatmayonlypertaintoconductingbusinesswiththem.Theseuniquerequirementswillbefoundinatableattheendofeachsection.

2A. CriteriaforSelectionasaTRWAutomotiveSupplier2A.1. ISO/TS16949:2002RegistrationTRWAutomotive'sgoalforallsuppliersofmaterialsandservicesaffectingproductionmaterialistodemonstratecompliancetoISO/TS16949:2002.SuppliersshallalsocomplywithTRWAutomotivespecificrequirementsdefinedintheGlobalSupplierQualityManual(GSQM),foundat/.

SupplierstoTRWAutomotiveshallbethirdpartycertifiedtoISO9001:2000orISO/TS16949:2002byJune1,2004.ThisisconsistentwithTRW'scustomerexpectations,andISO9001:2000isseenasthefirststepinbecomingISO/TS16949:2002certified.Thescopeofthisrequirementaffectssubassembly,sequencing,sorting,reworkandcalibrationservicesinadditiontodirectmaterialsuppliers.

Suppliers,withmanufacturingcapability,shallcontinueontoISO/TS16949:2002thirdpartyregistrationbysubmittingaplanwithdetailsincludinginternalself-appraisalsandthenameofthethirdpartyregistrarbody.AplantoachievecertificationshallbesubmittedtoyourrespectivecommoditybuyerandSupplierDevelopmentEngineer.ThirdpartycertificationtoISO/TS16949:2002shallbecompletednolaterthanJuly1,2006.TRWAutomotiverecommendsforitssupplierstocontinueusingthelatestAutomotiveIndustryActionGroup(AIAG)versionsoftheAdvancedProductQualityPlanningandControlPlan(APQP),PotentialFailureModeandEffectsAnalysis(FMEA),MeasurementSystemAnalysis(MSA),ProductionPartApprovalProcess(PPAP),andStatisticalProcessControl(SPC)manualsasguidelinesfortheirsystemdevelopment.

2A.2. e-BusinessCapabilitiesSuppliersshallhaveemail,InternetaccessandInternetbrowserasaminimumforeBusinesscapability.ThisisrequiredtoparticipateinTRW'swebbasedapplicationsandcommunicationssuchas:

MeasureofPerformanceSystem(MOPS)/SupplierScorecard,

ConcernTrackingSystem,

ProgramTrackingSystem,

SupplyWeb,EDI&ASNs,

SupplierAuditDatabase(SAD),

GlobalSupplierQualityManual.SuppliersareresponsibleformaintainingcontactinformationintheVINSupplierMaster.Thesecontactsincludethetopmanagementrepresentatives,andtherequiredinformationincludesphonenumbersandemailaddresses.Additionally,suppliersshall,atminimum,maintainandupdatetheircertificationstatus,onceperyear.AnychangeincertificationorstatusmustimmediatelybecommunicatedtoyourrespectivecommoditymanagerandSDE.Certificationstatusisalsoaccessibletosuppliersthroughtheirscorecard.Thisinformationisupdatedmonthly.2A.3. NewSupplier/LocationQualificationNewsupplierswhowishtobeadded,asasupplier,toTRWAutomotiveshall:

DemonstratecomplianceataminimumtoISO9001:2000withaplantoachieveISO/TS16949:2002uponapproval,

MeetallcommercialandfinancialrequirementsoftherelevantTRWproductline,

CompletetheNewSupplierQuestionnaire(D10.200).

SuccessfullypassaTRWNewSupplierAudit(D10.105)withaminimumscoreof80%.GuidelinesforthisauditcanbefoundintheSupplierAssessmentProtocol(D10.104).SuppliersdirectedforusebyTRW'scustomersshallmeetallthecriteriadefinedbythisdocument.2A.4 NewSupplierAssessmentCriteriaDuringsupplierselectionandassessment,TRWwillperformvariousauditstoconfirmsuppliercapability,beyondthecertificationlevel.TheprimaryfocusareasaredepictedinFigure2below.Eacharearequiresaminimumscoreof80andoverallof80,orgreater,tobeconsideredforsourcing.Suppliersthatinitiallydonotscoreacceptablywillbeallowedtodevelopactionplansandtimelinestocorrectanydeficienciesandthenrequestare-audittoverifyimplementationoftheseactions.

2B. NewProductLaunch2B.1. IntroductionNewProductLaunchinitiatesatdesignconceptandrunsthroughaproductionlaunchofanewcomponent.WhenspecifiedbytheTRWSDE,suppliersshallusetheTRWGlobalSupplierDevelopmentManagementProcess(Figure1)whenlaunchingnewproductforTRWAutomotive.TRWAutomotiveNewProductIntroductionteamswilldefinecomponentcriticalityduringtheproductdevelopmentcycle.ThisdesignationdeterminestheinvolvementofTRWSupplierDevelopmentintheAPQPandlaunchprocessofsuppliers.Allsuppliers,regardlessofcomponentcriticality,shalluseadisciplinedlaunchandAPQPprocess.2B.2. AdvancedProductQualityPlanning(APQP)SuppliersshallprovideAPQPstatusreportsforanewproductwithregardtomeetingtheProgramobjectivesofquality,cost,performanceandtiming.TRWwillprovidetheformat,frequency,andtherequiredcontentofthesereports.TRWprefersfortheirsupplierstousetheformsincludedinthisdocument.Supplierswhosecomponents/materialsthatTRWhasdesignatedasCriticalAshallusetheTRWAutomotiveformsavailablethroughthismanual,andshallcompletethoseformsinEnglish.Supplierswhosecomponents/materialsaredesignatedasotherthanCriticalA,andwhowishtouseanalternativeformatshallcontacttheirSupplierDevelopmentEngineeranddemonstrateequivalencybetweentheformsbeforeanysubmissionismade.Whenrequired,suppliersshalluseTRW'sonlinereportingsystemforProgramtracking.SupplierstoTRWareresponsibleformanagingtheirnewproductintroductionprocesstotheguidelinesprovidedinthisdocument.TRW’sAPQPprocessconsistsoffivephasesasshownbelow.DeliverablesforthefivephasesaredefinedinFigure3.

APQP-5ThissegmentistheProductandProcessValidation,andLaunch,stageoftheprocess.Itisduringthissegmentthatthesuppliercompletesavalidationrunontheproductionprocess,submitsaProductionProductApprovalProcess(PPAP)package.Suppliersshallconduct,duringthissegment

ARunatRateontheprocess,

CompleteaLaunchReadinessReview,and

APartandProcessAudit.Dependingonthecomponentcriticality,theSDEmayeitherbepresentfortheseevents,requiresubmissionoftheresults,ormayreviewatthesupplier’sfacilityduringafuturevisit.

SupplierComponent/ProcessDesignReview-aformaldrawingandvalidationplanreviewinvolvingaTRWcross-functionalteamandthesupplier.ThisisakeyeventintheAPQPprocess.SuppliersareexpectedtoconductaninternaldesignreviewbeforeattendinganyheldbyTRW.Itisalsobeneficialforsupplierstoinviterepresentativesfromtheirsub-tiersupplierstojointheirteamforthismeeting.Anactionplanwillbegeneratedfromtheopenissuesdiscussedduringthereviewandtherewillbefollow-uptoassuretimelyclosureofthoseissues.

TheProductCharacterizationMatrix(PCM)isadocumentthatisgeneratedattheDesignReviewandevolvesastheprocessdevelops.ForthosecomponentsandmaterialsthatdonotrequireaDesignReview,thesuppliershallgeneratethisdocumentandshallsubmititaspartoftheirPPAPpackage.ThisdocumenttiestogetherdesignatedandhighRiskPriorityNumber(RPN)rankedfeatureswiththeidentifiedcontrols.Beyondthis,italsodrivestheidentificationofsub-tiersupplierswh
