Then discuss in groups the following questions: Do you think Kim, John and James are Winners or Losers? Why? Par

2、t Three: Further Development Winners or Losers? Kim is an adventurer. In 1971, Kim and two of his brothers organized South Koreas first expedition to the Himalayas. They failed and one of his brothers died. The following year, they tried again. His youngest brother joined them. Disaster struck again

3、. One brother was killed and the other was seriously injured. His relatives all put in money to cover expenses. Kim says: “I will find no peace until I conquer the Himalayan peak that killed two of my brothers. If I fail, I am sure my brother will continue to do the job.”Part Three: Further Developm

He has a large house with a swimming pool, luxury cars, a beautiful wife and many girlfriends. John works long hours and has to go to parties every night. His wife complai

5、ns a lot, so he seldom goes home. Every morning when he wakes up he feels miserable. He doesnt trust anyone around him, so he is under a lot of stress all the time. John wants a child, but his wife doesnt. He is gaining weight and losing hair, but his girlfriends say he is more attractive than Tom H

6、anks.Part Three: Further Development Winners or Losers?To be continued James is a teacher in a small city. He lives in a small apartment with his wife and three lovely children. They dont have a car, but that doesnt bother them. The city is small and it is easy to get around. James gets up early eve

7、ry morning and goes jogging in the woods near his home. After that he rides his bike to school. His colleagues and students all love him. James has dinner with his family every day. In the evening they watch TV or read stories together. Onweekends, he and his wife and children go everywhere to the z

8、oo, to the lake, to parks, to museums, and to restaurants. His parents visit them from time to time.Part Three: Further Development Winners or Losers?Sample 1 As compared with the John and Kim, James is the only winner, I think. He leads a peaceful life with a relaxed body and mind, which just match

9、es my philosophy. John, by contrast, is a complete loser in life though he has a high position in business. He lives in a world full of lies and complaints, never gets love from his wife and his so-called girlfriends. Kim is a controversial example. I consider him a loser, too. I dont think one shou

10、ld reach a goal at the sacrifice of others. No matter what glory he gains for this action, he shouldnt bring pain to others. 11、oser. Everybody has his or her own goal and if he or she manages to reach the goal, he or she wins the game. I can only tell you which kind of life I want and will strive for. The brothers that make up their minds to conquer the Himalayas are the kind of people I honor most. I really appreciate thei

12、r courage and determination. But I have to admit that I am not that kind of person. I just want to be successful in my future career and have a happy family, somewhat like James. A life with long hours in business and parties every night is tiresome. Even though I can earn a lot of money and have many girlfriends, I may nev

My dreams are those that I wish I could realize but are just fantasies and have little probability. Frankly, a dream like “to be a professional in the field o

19、f computers” is my ambition. I will try my best to make them become a reality.
