Nepal Geographical InformationThe magical Kingdom of Nepal has occupied a prosperous and often dangerous location between the mighty powers of India and China. The 1)backbonebkbun( a central cohesive source of support and stability)脊椎 of the country is the Himalayas, and the highest point in the world, Mount Everest evrist. KatmanduKatmanduka:tma:ndu:( 加德滿都(尼泊爾首都) and Timbuktu, timbktu 廷巴克圖, both cities most people have heard of but know nothing about. You can read all the guide books, you can ask travellers who have been to Katmandu, but you still wont get a good idea of what the citys like. Theyll tell you its noisy and pollutedboth trueor theyll tell you its a charming使陶醉的appropriate to supernatural神奇的 powers step back in time(n,v)時(shí)光倒流之旅. I think Ill agree with the latter.Nepals intriguingintri:i adj. 有趣的;迷人capable of arousing interests combination of unexplored not yet discovered territory and 2)exoticadj.物異國(guó)的;語(yǔ)外來(lái)的;異國(guó)情調(diào)的outside, extraneousculture 3)spawned本意孵化,引起,引申為催生(to cause )the birth of the adventure-travel industry back in the 1950s. The capital city, Katmandu, has been a 4)meccamek 麥加 for backpackers背包客, mountaineers, mauntini 登山家 and truth seekers from around the globe ever since. the Durbar Square The historic centre of town is the Durbar Square, where the compulsory強(qiáng)制 cluster集中 of temples oversees俯瞰 the bustle喧囂(noisy and busy )of modern-day Katmandu. This is a good place to rent a 5)rickshaw黃包車(chē) and tour the old section of the city. We wound our way through the maze of alleys that are the heart of Kathmandu, passing 6)ornate:neit 華麗的buildings, small neighbourhood 7)shrinesrain 神殿, fruit stands and spice markets. Our trip ended in the crowded streets of Thamel泰美爾, a 8) sprawling spr:li overgrown(雜亂的)蔓生的,不規(guī)則地伸展的 area crammed塞滿 with budget hotels, shops, restaurants and travel agencies catering to the thousands of adventurers that pass through Katmandu each year. Thamel Everyone enjoys bringing home interesting mementos mementu 紀(jì)念品from their travels, and Thamel is certainly the place to find bargains on all kinds of great stuff. The dining daini selection here is varied and includes hamburgers and spaghetti意大利粉speti. Our guide, Tommy, suggested the Thamel House for traditional Nepali atmosphere and food, and an introduction to the local 9)schnapps nps烈酒 made from rice and very strong. Of the many elements drawing travellers to Nepal, perhaps the most intriguingintri:i 有趣的 are the colourful religious practices. Amazing temples are found throughout the cities and the devotion of the people can be witnessed around every corner.Nepal is officially a Hindu country. At Pashu Patinath帕斯帕提納寺 devout Hindus bathe in the sacred waters and deliver offerings to the shrines. 11)Sadhuss:du: 苦行僧, or Holy men神職人員, position themselves in front of the temples to meditatemediteit and collect 12)alms:mz救濟(jì)物. 接受布施 On the 13)outskirts郊區(qū) of Katmandu is one of the worlds largest Buddhistbudist stupas佛塔, Boudhanath. The structure marks the location of one of the ancient trading routes between Lhasal:s and Katmandu. Boudhanath is surrounded by giant prayer wheels used to 14)disperse傳播 believers 15)invocations to the heavens. In the evening Kathmandus sizable Tibetan population comes out to stroll around the temple and send off their prayers. I could easily have spent the entire afternoon here watching people and photographing the interesting faces.Night life Night life in Katmandu is pretty limited. One of the best ways to spend an evening is to take in one of the many cultural shows offered by local hotels and restaurants. At Bhojan Griha波真格里夏, an old home has been 16)meticulouslymetikjulsli restored精心修復(fù)的 to create an 17)authentic venue for Nepali folk music, dance and traditional cuisine. Katmandu is the kind of place I could hang out for a while. The entire area is a living museum. The ancient buildings stand 18)intact完整的 right alongside a lifestyle that remains unchanged and, hopefully, will survive another few centuries. Y(jié):1,its a charming使陶醉的appropriate to supernatural神奇的 powers step back in time(n,v)時(shí)光倒流之旅. 2,Nepals intriguing intri:i combination of unexplored territory and exotic culture spawned the birth of the adventure-travel industry back in the 1950s. 3, The historic centre of town is the Durbar Square, where the compulsory強(qiáng)制 cluster集中 of temples oversees俯瞰 the bustle喧囂(noisy and busy )of modern-day Katmandu. 擬人手法 Personated techniques4,a sprawling area crammed塞滿 with budget hotels -sprawling 與
