Knowledge Objections(1) Function: Learn to talk about past events and tell a story.(2) Key vocabulary: storm, report, area, wind, light, wood, window, match, beat, heavily, against, asleep, rise, apart, make sure, have fun with, fall asleep, die down, wake up, in a mess, help each other(3) Target language: Bens dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows while his mom was making sure the flights and radio were working. Ben was helping his mom make dinner when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows. He finally feel asleep when the wind was dying down at around 3:00 a.m.II. Ability Objects(1) Learn and master the usage of the past progressives tense.(2) Be able to talk about past events and tell stories using the target language.III. Moral Objects(1) Educate students to help each other in times of difficulty.(2) Develop the spirit of cooperation of students.Teaching Key PointsMaster the important phrases and sentences.Teaching Difficult points(1) Practice students reading skills(Predicting, skimming scanning and summarizing)(2) Practice talking about past events and telling stories by using the target language.Teaching MethodsThe situational teaching approach, task-based language teaching method, and multimedia-assisted teaching and learning methods.Teaching AidsPPTTeaching AnalysisThis lesson is the second lesson in Unit 5.The students are from Grade 8. They have known some expressions and care about the weather and nature. They are able to read the short passages in English. In this class, I mainly use situational teaching approach, task-based language teaching method and multimedia-assisted teaching and learning methods. I hope students can develop a habit to help others in difficulty through learning this passage. Teaching ProceduresStep 1:Warming-up.What kind of natural disasters(自然災(zāi)害) have you ever seen?earthquake(地震), flood(洪水), drought(干旱) ,typhoon(臺風(fēng)),rainstorm, snowstorm(暴風(fēng)雪), fire sandstorm(沙塵暴)Step 2: Lets watch a short video about rainstorm. Then ask and answer questions: 1. Whats the weather like before a rainstorm?2. What should we prepare before the rainstorm came?(learn the new words)3. What will happen after the rainstorm?4. Are the rainstorms always bad for people?Step3. Fast- reading.1. Listen to the radio and matchthemainideaofeach paragraph. Then discuss with your partner.2. Look through the passage and answer the two questions in 3a. 3. Read the passage again and complete 3b.Step4. Careful- reading.1. Summarize the structure of this passage.(before the rainstorm, during the rainstorm and after the rainstorm)2. Learn the passage paragraph by paragraph. (Divide students into three groups, each group read each part together. Then learn this passage by asking and answering questions. At the same time, write down important phrases on the blackboard. The teacher should recite the passage by using the phrases. But pay attention to the last sentence in this passage. )Step 5. Post-reading: (Have a discussion in groups.)“Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought families and neighbors closer together.” 1. What other things can bring people closer together?(earthquake, fire, flood, illness, traffic accidents)2.
