Unit 2 Healthy eating . AJack was born without eyes.He was very lucky as he grew up having other kittens(young cats) to socialize with, and was used to people from the moment he was born. However, when it came time to find the kittens homes,no one knew where Jack would end up.Thats when I got an e-mail from my friend. All she asked was “Do you still want one of the kittens?Theres one here with no eyes and no one would like to take him.” Without thinking,I told her that I did want the kitten. When we first brought him home,Jack stayed mostly in my room. After about a day he had no issues running around and climbing on everything. At times he gets lost in the house, hell stop. But we just call him and talk to him and it isnt long before he finds his way back to us.A few weeks after getting Jack,we got a new farm cat named Bear.Jack and Bear have become best friends. It doesnt matter that he cant see.He always knows when Bear is around.Hell run across the yard straight to Bear and wrap his front legs around his neck in a big hug. They run after each other around and wrestle.Theyll lie down in the grass together when tired.Jack is truly an inspiration.Ive owned lots of kittens in my life, but Jack is the happiest and most playful. He doesnt feel sorry for himself. He doesnt need pity.I think Jean, owner of Gumbo, another eyeless cat, said it best when she told me that cats dont have disability, they have adaptability.【語篇導(dǎo)讀】本文是一篇夾敘夾議文。 1.Why did Jack come to our home?A.I cared for an eyeless cat.B.I didnt mind whether he was blind.C.No other young cats kept him company.D.My friend begged me to take him home. 2.Which of the following statements is TRUE?A.Jack often wrestles with Bear indoors.B.Jack likes to play with a new eyeless cat.C.Jack quickly adapts to the new environment.D.Jack is good at talking and playing with people. 根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段中的“Hell run across the yard.and wrestle.”可知,Jack和Bear在院子里摔跤,而不是在室內(nèi),故排除A項(xiàng);選項(xiàng)B中“a new eyeless cat”與倒數(shù)第二段中的“. we got a new farm cat.” 3.What does the underlined word “issues” in Paragraph 3 mean?A.Trouble.B.Fun.C.Luck.D.Business. 4.What can we learn from the passage?A.A cat has nine lives.B.All is well that ends well.C.God helps those who help themselves.D.A good beginning makes a good ending. B(2018浙江)This month millions of American kids can forget about classroom bells and set off for grandparents homes,sleep-away camps and lifeguard stands. But summer vacation hasnt always been a birthright of U.S.schoolchildren.Before the Civil War,schools operated on one of two calendars(日歷),neither of which included a summer vacation.Rural(農(nóng)村的) schooling was divided into summer and winter terms, leaving kids free to help with the farm work in the spring planting and fall harvest seasons.Urban students, meanwhile, regularly had as many as 48 weeks of study a year, with one break per quarter. In the 1840s,however,educational reformers like Horace Mann moved to combine the two calendars out of concern that rural schooling was not enough and that overusing of young minds could lead to nervous disorders.Summer appeared as the obvious time for a break:it offered a rest for teachers, fit in the farming calendar and reduced doctors concern that packing students into hot classrooms would promote the spread of disease. But peoples opinion about the modern U.S.school year, which averages 180 days,is still divided. Some experts say its pleasant but lazy summer break, which took hold in the early 20th century,is one of the reasons math skills and graduation rates of U.S.high schoolers ranked well below average in two international education reports published in 2007.Others insist that with children under increasing pressure to devote their downtime to internships (實(shí)習(xí)) or study, theres still room for an institution that protects the lazy days of childhood.【語篇導(dǎo)讀】本文是一篇說明文。 5.What did the rural school calendar before the Civil War allow children to do?A.Enjoy a summer vacation.B.Take a break each quarter.C.Have 48 weeks of study a year.D.Assist their parents with farm work. 根據(jù)第一段中“Rural(農(nóng)村的) schooling was divided into .leaving kids free to help with the farm work.” 6.What did the educational reformers do in the 1840s?A.They introduced summer vacation.B.They shortened rural school terms.C.They promoted the study of farming.D.They advocated higher pay for teachers. 根據(jù)第二段中“In the 1840s,.moved to combine the two calendars out of.Summer appeared.” 7.Why are some people unhappy about the modern U.S.school year?A.It pushes the teachers too hard.B.It reduces the quality of education.C.It ignores science instruction.D.It includes no time for internships. 根據(jù)第三段“.Some experts say.is one of the reasons.below average.” 根據(jù)第三段知,該段并未提到對(duì)教師的影響,故排除A項(xiàng);根據(jù)第三段“.theres still room for an institution.”可知,文章提到制度保障,而不是C項(xiàng)中的instruction“指導(dǎo)、說明”,C項(xiàng)屬于概念的偷換,故排除;根據(jù)第三段“.to devote their downtime to internships(實(shí)習(xí)) or study.” .七選五(2018全國)If you are already making the time to exercise,it is good indeed! With such busy lives,it can be hard to try and find the time to work out.1 Working out in the morning provides additional benefits beyond being physically fit.Your productivity is improved.Exercising makes you more awake and ready to handle whatever is ahead of you for the day.2Your metabolism(新陳代謝) gets a head start.3 If you work out in the mornings, then you will be getting the calorie(卡路里) burning benefits for morning provides additional benefits beyond being physically fit.” 根據(jù)本段開頭提到的“Your metabolism(新陳代謝) gets a head start.”
