After the success of the London Olympics theres unprecedented excitement about the Paralympics. But what are the differences between the two sets of Games? It may sound similar, and end in “l(fā)ympic”, but the Paralympics are not the Olympics. The famous rings have no place here. Instead there is the Agitos, the three swoops (波形線) in red, green and blue that represent the Paralympic motto “spirit in motion”.The two Games and the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympics Committee are separate entities (實體). The first international Paralympic Games took place in Rome, a week after the 1960 Summer Olympic Games were held there. In 1964, they were held in Tokyo, again just after the Olympics. But in 1968, Mexico City, the host city of that years Olympics, refused to host the Paralympics. They were instead held in Tel AvIv and from then until 1988, the Paralympics continued to be held in locations completely separate to the Olympics. Then in 1988, Olympics hosts Seoul took on the Paralympics, and they have been held together ever since. In 2001, it became official, and now host cities have to bid for both. There are rumours that one day the two might become one, but opinions are split on the advantages of such a move. At the Paralympics, you dont have a blind runner competing against one with cerebral palsy (大腦性麻痹) but you may have a person with cerebral palsy competing against someone with restricted growth, which is perhaps a less obvious match. In order to stream the athletes, they have to go through vigorous testing of function and movement from sporting medical professionals who then give them a classification.Classifications can be controversial. “There are some who try to cheat their class,” says former Paralympian Baroness Tanni Gray-Thompson. “When they deliberately cheat its the same as taking drugs. But some do just fall one side or other of a line and can move up and down between classes.” 1. The first paragraph shows that the two sets of Games are different in _.A. their sites B. their mottosC. their organizations D. their events2. How many times were the two sets of Games held in different sites?A. Only once. B. Three times.C. Five times. D. Seven times.3. Why is it difficult for the two sets of Games to become one?A. There are too many events.B. Classifications are difficult.C. Athletes always take drugs.D. There is not enough room.4. What is the text mainly about?A. Success of the London Olympics.B. History of the Paralympic Games.C. Development of the Olympics.D. Differences between the two sets of Games. Instead there is the Agitos . the Paralympic motto . But in 1968, Mexico City . and from then until 1988 . Mobile phones are everywhere. Men often go for diets with a simple message eat this, avoid that and dont care about the ins and outs of nutrition science as _2_ as women do. While women might likethe idea of dieting, _3_ instead prefer talking about getting in shape. Biology also plays _4_ role: men tend to loseweight more quickly and might find it _5_ (easy) than women to stick to a diet. The Fast Diet, a best-selling book_6_ tells people to eat normally for five days each week, then sharply restrictintake to 500 calories a day for the other two days, _7_ (become) popular with some men recently. Some people referto this so-called 5:2 weight-loss plan as “the blokes diet(男人節(jié)食法)”. While few men would ever admit to being_8_a diet, they are happy to say that they fast(禁食) two days a week, _9_ that sounds altogether more spiritual andmore manly. Men like being able to eat without _10_(think) about it. So a hard-and-fast rule like “eat for five days, fast for two” is easy for men to follow and has wide appeal. as much as sb. does“和某人在方面一樣”。 play a role“發(fā)揮作用”。5. on a diet“節(jié)食”。9. 答案 as / for / because解析 考查連詞。 Last Sunday I went to the Birds Nest Stadium.
