Show some pictures and ask the students: T: Who is he/she? Can you guess?What is he/she doing now?S1: He is watching a movie.S2: He is taking out the rubbish.S3: She is folding the clothes.Show another two pictures and ask T: What was I doing at that time?S1: You were having breakfast.T: What were you doing at that time?Ss: We were doing our homework.Use “What was/ were doing?” 引入過去進行時。StepII PresentationShow the picture on Page 33 and discuss it with ss:T: Where was the girl?S1: She was in her house.T: What was she doing at the time of the rainstorm?S1: She was doing her homework.Have students work in pairs with other pictures.Have students read the instruction in 1a and match the statements with the people in the picture. Then check the answers in class.Step III While listening activitiesTask 1: Listen for the general idea of 1b.The general idea of the TV report is about_.A:the rainstorm B: some people C: different activities people were doing at the time of the rainstormTask 2: Listen to the TV report again and circle the correct responses.T: What were they doing when the rainstorm came? Lets listen.Remind the students to pay attention to “was/ were + doing”.a. doing my homework / studyingb. palying basketball / readingc. going to work / waiting for the busd. walking home / shoppingAfter listening, ask some students to report their answers.Step IV PracticeTalk about what the people in 1a were doing at the time of the rainstorm.Ask several pairs to act out.Step V SpeakingShow some pictures of the students and let them ask and answer questions by using “was/were + doing”.A: What was doing at the time of the rainstorm? B: She was.Step VI Listening PracticeTeach the new words “alarm” and the phrases “go off” and “take a shower” by using pictures.Have students look at pictures in 2a and describe them. Tell students that this is a story about a boy yesterday morning. Have them look at the pictures and guess the order of the story happened.Play the tape the first time, students only listen and get a general idea of it,ask students to write the numbers in front of the pictures. Check the answers in class.Let students go through the sentences for each picture in 2a. Play the tape again and let them complete the sentences. Check the answers in class.Listen for the third time, this time; ask ss to fill in the blanks to find out what happened to the boy.Then check the answers.Step VII Retell the storyHave students read the sentences in 2a and 2c, and the teacher explains the adverbial clauses with “when” in 2a and 2c. Then ask them to use the information in 2a to retell the story. What happened to the boy?Step VIII Summary and ExerciseGuide students to summarize the language points they learned in this class.Ask students to finish the exercise about the progressive tense.Step IX Homework1.
