This film was a great success and inspired three sequels(續(xù)集). Ironically(諷刺的是), this was the kind of part Reeve usually looked down upon. He was a stage actor at heart who preferred doing classical period plays and films that really required(要求) him to “act”. He once said, “I want to challenge myself in my roles, not run around on screen with a machine gun.”In 1980, Reeve starred in “Somewhere in Time”, a time travel romance. Although this film was not popular at the time it was released(公映), it has since enjoyed a nationwide popularity cult following, especially among college students. In 1984, Reeve won critical cheers for his role as a 19th century southern lawyer in “The Bostonians”.On May 27th,1995, Reeve was paralyzed(癱瘓的) from the neck down after being thrown from his horse, and largely retired(退休) from the production of films after his paralysis. With his wife Dana, he opened the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, devoted to teaching paralyzed people to live more independently.25. According to the passage, we can get the conclusion that the play “Love of Life”_.A. gained a great success B. changed Reeves life completelyC. is just a relaxation for most audienceD. talks about serious political problems26. The underlined part in the third paragraph shows that Reeve _.A. enjoyed different kinds roles related to high technologyB. did not like to play the role of the Superman because of the dangerC. was an ambitious actor who intended to play all kinds of charactersD. was a peace-loving man, who hates weapons and all the military actions27. On May 27th, 1995, Reeve _.A. acted out the role of a lawyer in The BostoniansB. fell down during the horse-riding and became paralyzedC. won critical cheers for his performance in Somewhere in TimeD. opened the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center28. The word “cult following” in the fourth paragraph probably means _.A. popular fashion B. lovely and interestingC. of the present time D. bad-tempered dog (C)Everyone has good memories. For me, those good days with my grandparents are always in my heart. My grandma would spend hours playing card games with me on her couch. My grandpa had always been fit for his age. He would throw me in the air, let me jump on his lap, and do anything to make me laugh. Sitting in his orange armchair, he would call from the kitchen, “Princess, I made you a banana split.” It was an old ice-cream dish, just for me. To my grandparents, I will always be Princess. They were always teaching me something. My grandma taught me how to spell before I went to the kindergarten. She taught me how to sew, how to cook, and how to sweep. My grandpa taught me about hard work, such as hamming a nail (釘子) and repairing the yard. He would find a lesson to teach me in everything we did together. The memory I am most amazed by is of their patience. My mouth and brain ran 100 miles an hour. Those of you who have children know how difficult it can be to be patient during times like that. My grandparents took the time to fully answer all of my questions. They were never annoyed, never upset and never too busy. There is so much that can be learned from my grandparents. I find myself becoming more like them as I become older. I see it most when interacting with my 6-year-old boy. Raising my little boy, I also see myself in him. So I am sure that he will do the same when he becomes a father.29 From the passage we know that the authors grandparents.A brought her up Bwere strict with herCtaught her some basic skills D. were good at communicating with people30What does the underlined sentence in Para.4 probably mean?_AThe author used to run very fast.BThe author was very interested in lots of things.CThe author did her best to please her grandparents.DThe author often played tricks on her grandparents.31What message does the author want to give in the last paragraph?_AGood family education benefits a child a lot. BGrandparents are kinder to kids than adults.CGrandparents are the leaders of our lives. DIt is not an easy job to bring up a child.(D)Like every language, American English is full of special expressions, phrases that come from the day-to-day life of the people and develop in their own way. Our expression today is to face the music. When someone says, well, I guess Ill have to face the music, it does not mean hes planning to go to the concert. It is something far less pleasant, like being called in by your boss to explain why you did this or did that, and why you didnt do this or that. Sour(心酸的) music indeed, but it has to be faced. At sometime or another, every one of us has to face the music, especially as children. We can all remember fathers angry voice, I want to talk to you.”and only because we did not obey him. What an unpleasant business it was!The phrase to face the music is familiar(熟悉的) to every American, young or old. It is at least 100 years old. And where did this expression come from? The first explanation comes from the American novelist, James Fennimore Loopier. He said, in 1851, that the expression was first used by actors while waiting in the wings to go on the stage. When they got their cue(暗示) to go on, they often said, Well, its time to face the music.”And that was exactly what they did - facing the orchestra(管弦樂(lè)隊(duì)) which was just below them. And an actor might be frightened or nervous as he moved on to the stage in front of audience that might be friendly or perhaps hostile, especially if he forgot his lines(臺(tái)詞). But he had to go out. If he did not, there would be no play. So the expression to face the music came to mean having to go through something, no matter how unpleasant the experience might be, because you knew you had no choice. Other explanations about the expression go back to the army. When the men faced an inspection(檢閱) by their leader, the soldiers would be worried about how well they looked. Was their equipment clean, shinny enough to pass the inspection?Still the men had to go out and face the music of the band(樂(lè)隊(duì)) as well as the inspection. What else could they do?Another army explanation is more closely related to the idea of facing the resultsand accepting the responsibility for something that should not have been done. For example, when a man is forced out of the army because he did something terrible, he is dishonored. The band does not play. Only the drums(鼓) tap a sad, slow beat. The soldier is forced to leave, facing such music as it is and facing the back of his horse.32. How many ways does the phrase to face the music comes from? _.A. One B. Two C. Three D. Four33. Whats the meaning of to face the music? _.A. To face something far less pleasant. B. To face the stage. C. To face the back of ones horse. D. To face ones leader.34. Which of the following is a situation of facing the music? _.A. When we are playing basketball. B. When we are making a speech. C. When we are having a party. D. When we are talking with somebody.35.
