Step1:Warm-up

Say“standup”andhavethechildrenbeginmovingaroundtheroom.

Say,“Tiger”andhavethechildrenrespondbyimitatingatigerwithmovementsandnoises.

RepeatthisforotheranimalslearnedinUnit7.Havethechildrencontinuetomovearoundtheclassroom.

Say“sitdown”andholduptheflashcardsforeachanimal.Ask,“Whatisit?”andhavethechildrenrespond,“It’sa(tiger).”

Repeatforallthewordsofanimals.

Step2:Preview

Holduptheflashcardforsquareandhavethechildrenlookatit.

Repeatthestepaboveandpresentthenewvocabulary.

Repeatthenewwordsbyholdingupdifferentshapesandelicitingthewordsfromthechildreninachoraldrill,andthenformindividuals.

Step3:Let’ssay

Directthechildrentoopentheirbooksanddrawtheirattentiontothephotographoftheostrich.Pointtotheostrichandsay,”Thisisanostrich

Playthetape,pointingtothepictureoftheword.

Nowreplythetapeandhavethechildrentouchthepictureastheylisten.

Playthetapeonemoretimeandhavethechildrenlistenandrepeattheword,ostrich.

Repeatthestepsaboveforotherwords.

Step4:Saytherhyme

Lookattheanimalsonthepage14.

Askthemtotalkaboutwhattheyknowabouttheseanimals.

Say“ostrich”Havethemimitateanostrich.Repeatwithotheranimal.

Drawthechildren’sattentiontotheostrich.Pointtoitslegandsay“Leg”.Askthestudentstofindouthowmanylegsanostrichhas.

Playthetape.Havethemlistenandpointtothecorrespondingpicture.

Playthetapeagain.Thistime,havethestudentstoimitatetheanimalstheyhearonthetape.

Step5:Drawandsay

Say,“Openyourbook.”HavethechildrenlookatthefirstpictureandMucky.

Directthechildren’sattentiontothedecorativeshapesonthefence.TellthemthatthereisaruleguidingtheappearanceoftheseshapesandMuckyistryingtofigureoutwhatthefollowingshapesonthefencewouldbe.

Givethechildrenenoughtimetodiscovertheruleandthenhavethemdraw
