RobertFrost(1874-1963)

AsoneofAmerica'sleading20th-centurypoetsandafour-timewinnerofthePulitzer

Prize,Frostwrotepoems,whosephilosophicaldimensionstranscendanyregion.His

poetryisthusbothtraditionalandexperimental,regionalanduniversal.Heunquestionably

succeededinrealizinghislife'sambition:towrite“afewpoemswheretheywillbehardto

PierreAugusteRenoir(1841-1919)

RenoirwasafamousFrenchpainter,andoneofthefoundersandexponentsofthe

andoneofthegreatestcelebritiesofhisday.Astheresultofafamous,trial,hesuffereda

dramaticdownfallandwasimprisonedfortwoyearsofhardlaborafterbeingconvictedof
