1.prefer的基本意思是“較喜愛,更喜愛”,多指在兩個或兩個以上的選項中優(yōu)先選擇其中的一項,多用于“prefer...to...”或“prefer...ratherthan”結構,相當于likebetter或placebeforetheothers,因此不能用more或most來修飾它。引申可表示為“寧可”“寧愿”等。

2.prefer也可作“提出”解,多指提出聲明、懇求、控訴等,常與介詞against連用,是正式用語。

3.prefer間或還可作“提升”“提拔”解,作此解時常與介詞to連用,常用于被動結構。

4.prefer只用作及物動詞,可接名詞、代詞、動名詞、動詞不定式作賓語,也可接that從句,從句中的謂語動詞一般需用現(xiàn)在時的虛擬語氣,但當prefer前有should〔would〕時,其后從句可不必用虛擬式。prefer接動詞不定式作賓語時,還可后接insteadofv-ing。prefer還可接以動詞不定式或形容詞、過去分詞充當補足語的復合賓語,用作賓語補足語的動詞不定式可帶to,也可不帶to。

5.prefer在不能確定被否定的事物而需征求對方的看法時,用連接詞or連接兩種供選擇的事物或行為。

6.prefer與ratherthan連用,接兩個動詞不定式時,其次個動詞不定式?？梢允÷詔o,間或也可改用動名詞。在書面語中,也可把rather提到第一個動詞不定式前面。假如兩個動詞不定式相同,而附加修飾成分不同,則可省去動詞不定式,只保留附加的修飾成分。在特殊強調(diào)時,名詞前也可用ratherthan。

prefer后可接動詞不定式,也可接動名詞。其區(qū)分在于：接動詞不定式時表示特定時刻或特定狀況下的愛好,接動名詞則表示一般狀況下的愛好或日常愛好。

prefer,like

這兩個詞都有“喜愛”的意思。其區(qū)分在于：

1.like表示喜愛;而prefer表示“更喜愛”“較喜愛”,相當于likebetter。

2.like可與(the)most〔best〕連用,而prefer不行。
