listenedtothescientistswhohadstudiedtheproblem,andcitizenswholivednearthedam.ThegovernmentturnedtotheUnitedNationsforhelp.19591960AcommitteewasestablishedtolimitdamagetotheEgyptianbuildingsandpreventthelossofculturalrelics.Thegroupaskedforcontributionsfromdifferentdepartmentsandraisedfundswithintheinternationalcommunity.Expertsinvestigatedthe

issue,conductedseveraltests,andthenmadeaproposalforhowthebuildingscouldbesaved.Finally,adocumentwassigned,andtheworkbeganin1960.1950sTheEgyptiangovernment

listenedtothescientistswhohadstudiedtheproblem,andcitizenswholivednearthedam.ThegovernmentturnedtotheUnitedNationsforhelp.1959Acommittee

wasestablished.Thegroupaskedforcontributionsfromdifferentdepartmentsandraisedfundswithintheinternationalcommunity.Expertsinvestigatedtheissue,conductedseveraltests,andthenmadeaproposal.Adocumentwassigned.Theworkbegan.1960Theprojectbroughttogethergovernmentsandenvironmentalistsfromaroundtheworld.Templesandotherculturalsitesweretakendownpiecebypiece,andthenmovedandputbacktogetheragaininaplacewheretheyweresafefromthewater.In1961,Germanengineersmovedthefirsttemple.Overthenext20years,thousandsofengineersandworkersrescued22templesandcountlessculturalrelics.Fiftycountries
