Thelittleprince,throughapilot'snarrationofhisamazingencounterwithalittleprince,tellsusastoryofthelittleprincetravellingaroundfromhisplanettotheearth,visitingallkindsofcreatures(生物,人與動物植物).Usingthemostsimpleandperfectlyunderstandablelanguage,itrevealsthemostpreciousandmeaningfulvaluesoflifetome.TheminuteIreadthefirstline,Iamdestined(吸收)tobedeeplytouchedandinvolvedbythesimpleandfunnystory.IhavewonderedforanextremelylongtimeabouthowtoexpresswhatIhavethoughtaboutthisbookwhichmeanssomuchthatIreallyfeelalittleafraidofruiningthismasterpiecewithmysuperficial(膚淺的)understanding,andhumbleideas.Classicthingsarealwaysforyoutorespect.Truly,thisbookisafairy-tale,butitcouldn’tbebettertobeaguidebooktothosewhohavelostthemselvesintheirspiritualworlds.Thereviewofthebook.TheLittlePrinceisawell-knownnovel.Inthestorythelittleprince,themaincharacterinthebook,camefromaplanetwhichwasscarcelyanylargerthanahouse.Headmiredabeautifulflowerontheplanetbuthewastooyoungtoknowhowtoloveher.Therefore,hedecidedtoleavetheplanetandtraveledtootherplanets.Onthejourney,hemetvariouskindsofpeople.Forexample,hemetaking.Whoinsistedthathisauthorityshouldberespectedandhetoleratednodisobedience.Healsometaconceitedman,atippler,abusinessmanwhoclaimedforthepossessionofstarsonthesky.Moreover,hemetalamplighterandageographer,whoseviewsoflifemadehimquiteconfused.Finally,hecametotheearth,wherelivedalotofpeoplewhowereliketheking,theconceitedman,thetippler,thebusinessman,thelamplighterandthegeographer.Healsometaslysnakeandafox.Theytaughtthelittleprincewhatthetruelovewas.Withtherealizationofthetruelovebetweenhimandtheflower,thelittleprincesaidgoodbyetothenarratorandwentbackhome.Besides,therearesomemeaningfulsentencesinthisbook.Forexample,thefoxtoldthelittleprince,“Theeyesareblind.Onemustlookwiththeheart.It’sonlywiththeheartthatonecanseerightly;whatisessentialisinvisibletotheeye.”Iagreewiththepoint.Weshouldknowpeoplewiththeheartnotwitheyes.1.1Abriefintroductionoftheauthor---AntoinedeSaint-ExupérySaint-ExupérywasborninLyonin1900.Duringhismilitaryservice,helearnedtopilotairplanes.Afterhismilitaryservice,hepresentedhimselftothedirectorofanAirlinecompanyandexpressedtohimhisdesiretobecomeapilot.

FirstSaint-Exupéryworkedtobecomeamechanic.In1927,hewasthepilotofaformation.HecompleteddangerousmissionsovertheMediterraneanandovertheSahara.Hehadmanyaccidentsoverthemiddleofthedesert.Later,hewasnamedthedirectorofhisownaviationcompanyinSouthAmerica.AndhealsoaccomplishedmanydangerousmissionsovertheAndes.

2.Thecharactersandthesymbolicmeaningofimages.Throughoutthebook,Saint-Exupéryisverycriticalofmanyofthecharacteristicsofmankind.Heclaimsthathumansaretoopreoccupiedwithwealth,power,andtechnology,whichmakesthemmisstheimportantthingsinlife--beauty,love,andfriendship.Becausetheydonotinvestthetimeinlovingothersandnoticingthesmallwondersoftheworld,peoplerushfromplacetoplaceinsearchofsomething;butsincetheylookforthewrongthings,theyareneverhappywithwheretheyareandrushonwardagain,muchlikethetrainsthattheswitchmancontrols.Peoplearealsodupedintobelievingthatfactsandfiguresareimportant,justlikethegeographer.However,thefactsoftenhidethetruthandcauseapersontomissoutonthetruemeaningoflife.Inasimilarmanner,whenahumansucceedsandaccumulatessomewealth,theyspendalloftheirtimecountingtheirassetsinsteadofinvestingitintheimportantthingsoflife.Whentheyfinallyrealizetheirliveshavenomeaning,peoplethenturntocrutches,suchasalcohol,believingthatthesethingscansupplytheanswer;intruth,theansweralwaysliesinsideifapersonwillonlyseekthetruthbeneaththesurface.2.1ThecharactersThemainthemeofTheLittlePrinceistheimportanceoflookingbeneaththesurfacetofindtherealtruthandmeaningofathing.ItisthefoxwhoteachesthePrincetoseewithone’sheartinsteadofjustwithone’seyes.Unfortunately,mostadultshavedifficultiesindoingthis.Inthebeginningofthebook,thenarratorpointsouthowgrown-upscanneverseetherealmeaningofadrawing;instead,theylookatthesurface,failingtoprobeadeepermeaning.Next,I’llanalysisofthemajorcharactersofthefollowingimages,thenarrator,thelittleprince,thefox,thesnake,thebaobabtree.Thisessayisdesignedtochallengeastudent'sunderstandingofthebroadpointsinawork,interactionsamongthecharacters,andmainpointsandthemesofthetext.But,theyalsocovermanyoftheotherissuesspecifictotheworkandtotheworldtoday.Itisinthischildren'sbookthatIfoundtheessentialmeaningoflife.2.1.1ThenarratorThenarratorofTheLittlePrinceisanadultinyears,butheexplainsthathewasrejuvenatedsixyearsearlierafterhecrashedhisplaneinthedesert.Hewasanimaginativechildwhosefirstdrawingwasacrypticinterpretationofaboaconstrictorthathadswallowedanelephant.Eventually,heabandonedartforthegrown-upprofessionofpilot,andhelivesalonelylifeuntilheencountersthelittleprince.Heservesastheprince’sconfidenceandrelaystheprince’sstorytous,butthenarratorisreallytheauthor,AntoinedeSaint-Exupéry.Thenarratorispresentthroughoutthebooktotellthestoryofhisfriendshipwiththelittleprinceandcommentonwhathehaslearnedfromhim.HeisveryattractedtothePrince,largelybecauseheischildlike,innocent,andpure.Thenarratoradmitsthathepreferstheopenness,honesty,andnaivetéofchildrentothepretensionsandblindnessofadults,whocannotseebeyondthesurfaceoflife.Thenarratorfeelsveryclosetothelittleprincebecauseheisabletoseethetruthandimportanceofthings.Evenaftersixyears,herememberseverythingaboutthislittlemanfromanotherplanet;asaresult,hewritesthebookinmemoryofhim.Eversincechildhood,thenarratorhasfeltfrustratedwithadults.Asayoungboy,hedrewpicturesofaboaconstrictoreatinganelephant,butnoneoftheadultscouldseetherealmeaningbeyondthesurfaceofthepicture.Theyallclaimedthedrawinglookedlikeahat.Whenthenarratorexplainedwhatthepicturereallywas,theadultssuggestedthathegiveupdrawingandpurposehisacademicstudies.Whenthenarratorshowsthelittleprinceadrawingofaboaeatinganelephant,heimmediatelyrecognizesitforwhatitis.Thenarratorisgreatlyimpressedandinstantlylikesthelittleprince.Thenarrator’sairplanecrashesintothedesert.Whileheistryingtorepairit,thelittleprincesuddenlyappearsandaskshimtodrawapictureofasheepforhim.Soonastrongbondoffriendshipdevelopsbetweenthetwoofthem.2.1.2ThelittleprinceThenovelisnamedafterthelittleprince,whoisamysticalandloveableperson.Heisachildwholivesinaverysmallworld.Heisverycuriousandneverletgoofaquestion,oncehehadaskedit.

ThelittleprinceisapureandinnocenttravelerfromouterspacewhomthenarratorencountersintheSaharadesert.BeforethelittleprincelandsonEarth,Saint-Exupérycontraststheprince’schildlikecharacterwithdifferentadultcharactersbyhavingtheprincehopfromoneneighboringplanettoanother.Oneachplanet,theprincemeetsadifferenttypeofadultandrevealsthatcharacter’sfrivolitiesandweaknesses.OnceonEarth,however,thelittleprincebecomesastudentaswellasateacher.Fromhisfriendthefox,thelittleprincelearnswhatloveentails,andinturnhepassesonthoselessonstothenarrator.
