7.10.1.FuelShut-offValve

WARNING

Thefuelshut-offvalveshouldonlybeclosedforemergenciesorfuelsystemmaintenance.

Therearetwodifferentversionsoffuelshut-offvalvesintheDA20-C1.

Version1

Thefuelshut-offvalveislocatedonthecabinsideofthefirewallandiscontrolledbyahandleontheright

sidecenterpedestal.Toactivatethefuelshutoffvalve,liftthehandlereleaselockandpullthehandleout.

Intheopenpositiontheknobisin.Intheclosedpositiontheknobisout.

Version2

Thefuelshut-offvalveisintegraltothemaintenancedrainmanifold,locatedbelowthefueltank.Itis

actuatedbythecenterconsolemountedrotarylever,viaarigidpushrod.Toactivatethevalve,rotatethe

leverclockwisefromOFFtoONorliftthelockoutknobandrotatethelevercounterclockwisefromONto

OFF.Thesafetylockoutknobpreventsaccidentalactuationofthevalve.

7.10.2.TankDrain

Todrainthetanksump,activatethespringloadeddrainbypushingthebrasstubeinwithadrain

container.Thebrasstubeprotrudesapprox.11/6in(30mm)fromthefuselagecontourandislocatedon

theleftsideofthefuselage,approximatelyatthesamestationasthefuelfillercap.

7.10.3.FuelFilterBowl

Thefuelfilterbowlisbetweenthetankandthefuelpump.Thebowlactsasatrapforsedimentandwater

thathasenteredthefuellinefromthetank.

7.10.4.FuelFilterBowlDrain

Thefilterbowldrainisnexttothefueltankdrain.Itoperatesinthesamemannerasthefueltankdrain.

7.10.5.FuelDipstick

Afueldipstick,P/N22-2550-14-00,issuppliedwithallaircrafttopermitdirectmeasurementoffuellevel

duringthepreflightcheck.OnserialnumbersC0056,C0066,C0067andC0069usefueldipstickP/N22-

2550-17-00.

NOTE

Electricfuelgaugesmaymalfunction.Checkfuelquantitywithfueldipstickbeforeeachflight.

Tocheckthefuellevel:

1.Insertthegraduatedendofthefueldipstickintothetankthroughthefuelfilleropeninguntilthe

dipsticktouchesthebottom.

2.Withdrawthedipstickfromthefueltank.

3.Readfuelquantity.Thedipstickiscalibratedinincrementsof4ofuseablefuelcapacity.

(21.3USgallons/80.5litersforType1FuelSystemor24.0USgallons/91litersforType2FuelSystem).

NOTE

Severalreadingsshouldbetakentoconfirmaccuracy.

7.10.6.ElectricFuelPump(PrimingPump)Operation

TheDA20-C1isequippedwithaDUKESconstantflow,vanetype,twospeed,electricfuelpump.This

pumpemitsanaudiblewhinewhenitisswitchedon.

FuelPrime

Thepump'shighspeedsettingisusedforprimingtheenginepriortoenginestart.Theprimesettingis

selectedbyturningtheFUELPRIMEswitchON.AnamberannunciatorindicatesthatFUELPRIMEON

isselected.

FuelPump

Thepump'slowspeedsettingisrequiredformaintainingpositivefuelsupplysystempressuresatlow

throttlesettings.ThissettingisselectedbyturningtheFUELPUMPswitchON.Thissettingshouldbe

selectedforanylowthrottleoperations,includingtaxiingandanyflightoperationswhenenginespeed

mayfallbelow1000RPM(eg.stalls,spins,descents,landings,etc.).TheFUELPUMPmayalsobe

selectedONtosuppresssuspectedvapourformationinthefuelsupplysystem.Smoothengine

operationathighambienttemperatureswithheatsoakedfuelanduptoandexceedingtheserviceceiling

hasbeendemonstratedwithoutuseoftheelectricpump.

NOTE

Turningtheprimingpumponwhiletheengineisrunning,willenrichenthemixtureconsiderably.Although

theeffectislessnoticeableathighpowersettingswhenthefuelflowrateishigh,theeffectatlowand

idlethrottlesettingsisanoverrichmixture,whichmaycauseroughengineoperationorenginestoppage.

Itisthereforerecommendedthatfornormaloperations,theFUELPRIMEbeturnedOFF.

7.10FUELSYSTEM

Thealuminumtankislocatedbehindtheseats,belowthebaggagecompartment.Thecapacityis

specifiedinSection2ofthismanual.Thetankfillerontheleftsideofthefuselagebehindthecanopyis

connectedtothetankwitharubberhose.Agroundingstudislocatedontheundersideofthefuselage

nearthetrailingedgeofthelefthandwing.Theaircraftmustbegroundedpriortoanyfuelingoperation.

Thetankventlinerunsfromthefillerneckthroughthefuselagebottomskintotheexterioroftheairplane.

Theventlineisthetranslucentplastichoseadjacenttotheleftwingroot.Theventlinemustbeclearfor

properfuelsystemoperation.Thetankhasanintegralsumpwhichmustbedrainedpriortoeachflight,

bypushinguponthebrasstubewhichprotrudesthroughtheundersideofthefuselage,forwardofthe

trailingedgeofthelefthandwing.

Twooutletswithfingerfilters,oneleftandoneright,areinstalledatthebottomofthetank.Fuelisgravity

fedfromtheseoutletstoafilterbowl(gascolator)andthentotheelectricfuelpump.Thefilterbowlmust

bedrainedpriortoeachflight,bypushingupontheblackrubbertubethatprotrudesthroughthe

undersideofthefuselage,adjacenttothefueltankdrain.Theelectricfuelpumpprimestheenginefor

enginestarting(PrimeON)andisusedforlowthrottleoperations(FuelPumpON).Whenthepumpis

OFF,fuelflowsthroughthepump'sintemalbypass.Fromtheelectricpump,fuelisdeliveredtothe

engine'smechanicalfuelpumpbythefuelsupplyline.Fuelismeteredbythefuelcontrolunitandflows

viathefueldistributionmanifoldtotheinjectornozzles.

Closingthefuelshut-offvalve,locatedeitherontheaftsideofthefirewalloratthemaintenancedrain

manifold,willcausetheenginetostopwithinafewseconds.

Aretumlinefromthemechanicalpump'sfuelvaporseparatorreturnsvaporandexcessfueltothetank.

Fuelpressureismeasuredatthefueldistributionmanifoldanddisplayedonthefuelpressureindicator,

whichiscalibratedinPSI.

SomeDA20-C1aircraftalsohaveafuelvaporseparatorinthedistributionmanifold.Theseaircrafthavea

secondvaporreturnlinefromthedistributionmanifoldtothefirewall.
