(一)避免使用陳舊的商業(yè)術(shù)語(yǔ)

陳舊的與傳統(tǒng)的商業(yè)術(shù)語(yǔ)(Commercialjargon)對(duì)信的內(nèi)容沒(méi)

有什么作用，應(yīng)該避免使用。

例一：Wordy:Wewishtoacknowledgereceiptofyourletter

ofNovember14withthecheckforStg.lOenclosedandwish

tothankyouforsame.

Concise:WeappreciateyourletterofNovember14andthe

checkforStg.10yousentwithit.

例二：Wordy:Wetakelibertytoapproachyouwiththe

requestthatyouwouldbekindenoughtointroducetoussome

exportersofcottontextilesinyourcities.Wouldyouplease

introducetoussomeexportersofcottontextilesinyourcity?

Concise:(a)Pleaseintroducetoussomeexportersofcotton

textilesinyourcity.(b)Wouldyoupleaseintroducetous

someexportersofcottontextilesinyourcity.(注：此類(lèi)簡(jiǎn)潔

的表達(dá)方式很多。)

(二)要長(zhǎng)話(huà)短說(shuō)，避免羅嗦

通常商業(yè)人士每天需要閱讀大量的書(shū)信，對(duì)開(kāi)門(mén)見(jiàn)山，長(zhǎng)話(huà)

短說(shuō)，直接切題的信特別歡迎。因此，寫(xiě)信要力求長(zhǎng)話(huà)短

說(shuō)，

刪去不必要的形容詞，如下列句子中的形容詞或副詞刪去后

并不影響句子的原意：

Theproposalisunder(active)consideration.Theansweris

(definitely)correct.Iwould(rather)thinkthefareistoohigh.

The(true)factsareasstated.

(三)要注意每句句子的長(zhǎng)短

例如："Wewouldliketoknowwhetheryouwouldallowus

toextendthetimeofshipmentfortwentydays,andifyou

wouldbesokindastoallowustodoso,kindlygiveusyour

replybycablewithoutdelay."這句話(huà)過(guò)分"客氣"，使句子過(guò)

長(zhǎng)而不清楚。內(nèi)容要求對(duì)方同意延期交貨2()天，一般情況

下，應(yīng)盡可能提出延期到那一天的具體日期。

這句話(huà)可壓縮為："Pleasereplybytelegramimmediatelyif

youwillallowustodelaytheshipmentuntilApril21.”(如同

意我們把交貨延期到四月二十一日，請(qǐng)電復(fù)。)

有的作者為了使人們記住避免使用陳舊的商業(yè)術(shù)語(yǔ)，專(zhuān)門(mén)選

擇了一些他認(rèn)為陳舊的商業(yè)術(shù)語(yǔ)搞成一首詩(shī)：Webegto

adviseandwishtostateThatyourshasarrivedofrecentdate.

Wehaveitbeforeus,itscontentsnoted;Herewithenclosed

arethepriceswequoted.Attachedpleasefind,asperyour

request,Thedatayouwanted;andnotletussuggestYour

COURTESY譯成"禮貌”。但是根據(jù)西方國(guó)家函電書(shū)籍作者

普遍的看法，所謂COURTESY是"客氣而又體諒人”的意

思。有的作者還把COURTESY和POLITENESS這兩個(gè)同

義詞做了比較，認(rèn)為：POLITENESS的客氣只是表現(xiàn)在文

章的語(yǔ)句上，而COURTESY則表現(xiàn)在對(duì)對(duì)方的“體諒"，例

如：

a)WehavereceivedwithmanythanksyourletterofOct.7,

andwetakethepleasureofsendingyoulatestcatalog.We

wishtodrawyourattentiontoaspecialoffer,whichwehave

b)youwillbeparticularlyinterestedinaspecialofferonpage

怎樣通過(guò)各種語(yǔ)言形式來(lái)表達(dá)COURTESY呢？這樣的形式

很多，現(xiàn)在提供一些常見(jiàn)的供參考：

(一)把命令變成請(qǐng)求的常用形式：

Please,Willyou,Willyouplease，如：

a)Willyougiveusmoredetailedinformationonyour

requirement?

b)Willyouplease(kindly)letushearfromyouonthesetwo

points?

(二)虛擬式(PastSubjunctiveFrom)如:

a)Wouldyoucompareoursamplewiththegoodsofother

vessel.

c)Wewishyouwouldletushaveyourreplysoon.

d)Thiswouldseemtoconfirmouropinion.

g)Weshould(would)likeyoutoletusknowtheexactamount,

以上的b,f,g,也可用will,shall,may,但是用Past

SubjunctiveForm則表示更客氣和婉轉(zhuǎn)些。

(三)緩和用法(Mitigation)

為r緩和過(guò)分強(qiáng)調(diào)或刺激對(duì)方，常用：Weareafraid,we

wouldsay,wemay(or,might)say,we(would)think,it

seems(orwouldseem)tous,we(would)suggest,asyouare

(or:maybe)aware,asweneedhardlypointout等等表達(dá)法來(lái)

緩和語(yǔ)氣，如：

a)Itwasunwiseofyoutohavedonethat.Wewouldsaythat

itwasunwiseofyoutohavedonethat.

b)Yououghttohavedoneit.Itseemstousthatyouought

tohavedoneit.

c)Wecannotcomplywithyourrequest.Weareafraidwe
