neighborhoodinYucaipa,CaliforniabandedtogethertosynchronizetheirChristmaslightssotheywouldallflashintimetogethertosongsincludingtheTrans-SiberianOrchestra’s“WizardsofWinter."1.3RequirementsfortheNewsTranseditingProjectAccordingtotheweirdnewschannelofHuanqiuWeb,theeditorshouldtranseditweirdnewsonthebasisofthefollowingrequirements:Firstly,theinformationintheoriginaltextshouldbetranslatedaccurately.Secondly,duringtheproject,literaltranslationshouldbeavoided,andrewritethenewsinthesameparagraphandsentenceorderoftheoriginalreportisnotadvised.Thirdly,theexpressionmustbesmooth,easytounderstandandinterestingtoread.Fourthly,thetargetnewsreportshouldbeaccordwiththecharactersofnewstexts.TheTop-to-Downstructureisthetypicalstructureofreportnews,sothe

shouldbegiven

in

thefirst

paragraphofthetargetreport.Fifthly,thetoppriorityintranseditingshouldbegiventothetargetgroupofthenewsreport,andthetargetnewstextsmustbeintasteforChinesereaders.Thelessimportantinformationinthenewsreportshouldbedeleted.Finally,thememberofthechannelmustfinishnolessthan48articles’transeditingwithinthreemonth.Atleast4piecesofnewsshouldbeaccomplishedeachweekandmorethan16piecesmustbepublishedwithinamonth.ThedetailedrequirementsfornewstranseditingfromtheweirdnewschannelinHuanqiuWebissampledintheAppendixofthereport.1.4QualityAssuranceThequalityofthetranslationandeditprojectisassuredmainlyintwoways:Inthefirstplace,theeditorhastocheckandrevisehisworksaftertransediting,thusminorerrorscouldbecorrected.Thesecondone,alsothemostimportant,istosubmitthenewsreporttoinstructorfromHuanqiuWeb,whowasassignedbythecommitteeofthetranseditingplatform.Theinstructorwouldrevisethetargettextscarefullyandprovideadviceforbetterwork.Thusthequalityofthetranseditingprojectisassured,andthenewsinChinesewouldbepublishedinthehomepageofHuanqiuWeb.2.PreparationfortheTranslationTask2.1TranslationScheduleThetranseditingprojectwaslaunchedinNovember2014andendedinMarch2015.Duringtheperiod,theauthortranslatedthereal-timenewsfromHuanqiuWebwithin5hoursandthensubmitedthemtotheeditorofHuanqiuWebtopublishinthewebsite.Nolessthan2piecesmustbeaccomplishedeveryday,andtheauthorusuallyworksfromeighto’clocktoeleveno’clockinthemorning.Atleastfourpiecescouldbefinishedeachweekandmorethan16pieceswouldbepublishedwithinamonth.2.2LiteratureReadingTheweirdnewscoveredawiderangeofsubjects.Tofinishthetranslationandedittaskbetterandimprovethetranslatingabilityonnewstexts,theauthorreferredtothefollowingbooks,magazines,papersandwebsites:ByreadingANewCoursebookonChinese-EnglishTranslation(《新編漢英翻譯教程》),ABasicTextbookforTranslation(《英漢翻譯基礎(chǔ)》)andACourseinEnglish-Chinese(《英漢翻譯教程》),theauthorgotabetterunderstandingonthebasictranslationskillsandstrategies.SelectedReadingsofContemporaryWesternTranslationTheory(《當(dāng)代西方翻譯理論選讀》)gavetheauthoranoutlineoftranslationtheories,whichcanbetheguidelineinthetranslatingprocedure.BookslikeACoursebookonPragmaticTranslation(《英漢-漢英應(yīng)用翻譯綜合教程》),InNewsTranslation(《怎樣做新聞翻譯》)andEnglish-ChineseNewsTranslation(《英漢新聞翻譯》)providedmodelsfornewstranslationandedit.TheauthorlookedupdifficultwordsandphrasesinOxfordAdvancedLearner’sEnglish-ChineseDictionaryandcomprehendedsomecomplexsentencesbyreadingthebookANewEnglishGrammarCoursebook(《新編英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)法教程》).Consideringthatnumerousforeignnamesappearinweirdnews,theauthorcheckeditinwebsite/cn/gailan.do?cid=6.Theauthoralsoreferredto/forsometermsfrominventionsornewconcepts.2.3TextAnalysisTheweirdnewstextsconsistofthreedifferentpartstotally.Themostimportantpartinnewsistheheadline.AswithnewsinChinese,theheadlineofEnglishweirdnewsiseye-catching,providesasummaryonthecontentsofthenewsandgivesabriefintroductiontowhathappenedandwhere,whendiditoccurredandwhodidit.Thentheintroductiontothenewsshouldgiveamorespecificoutlineonwhatfollowed.Whatfollowedtheintroductionisthebodypart,inwhichdetailedinformationispresented.Inrespectoflinguisticsfeatures,shortwords,acronymsandabbreviationsarefrequentlyemployedinweirdnews.Intermsofrhetoricaldevices,Englishweirdnewsoftenusesalliteration,antithesisandmetaphortoattractreaders.Furthermore,discoursesareoftenquotedinweirdnews.Thesediscoursesareorientedtoofferthemostimportantinformationtothereadersatthebeginning,thenlessrelevantnewswillbefollowed.Forexample:Thesourcetext:“Itbringstogetherthediversecollectionsofdata,art,testimonyandobjectsofthosewhochallengedpreconceivedideasaboutsexandtellsthehumanstoriesbehindthechartingofsexualexperience.”Accordingtohistorians,thefirstrubberdildoswerebeingmade
