thepoetry.ItisRochester'sachievementasapoetwhich

career,Rochesterisacrucialfigureinthedevelopmentof
EnglishversesatireandfileHoratianepistle,astudentof
hiselderFrenchcontemporaryBoileau,andanimportant
exemplarforlaterpoetsasdifferentasAlexanderPopeandAnne

CephasGoldsworthy,s"TheSatyr"givesusthelegend.Although
therearenofootnotestosources,thebookshowssome
acquaintancewithmodemRochesterscholarshipandits
