Wood,branchesoftreesandotherusefulmaterialsshallbehandedovertotheEmployer.ThefelledtreesshallbecuttosuchlengthsasdirectedbytheEngineer,andtrunksandbranchesshallbeclearedoflimbsandtopsandstackedneatlywellawayfromthesiteofwork.OtherserviceablematerialsshallbestackedasdirectedandhandedovertotheEmployer.2.1.4 DisposalofWastematerials Attheconclusionofthesitework,theContractorshalltidyupandleavethesiteoftheworkinacleanandsanitarycondition.Allserviceablematerialshallberemovedfromtheareaanddisposedofasdirected.Careshallbetakentoseethattheunsuitablewastematerialsaredisposedofinsuchamannerthatthereislikelihoodofthesegettingmixedupwithmaterialsmeantforconstruction.2.1.5 Waterways Allfielddrainsandotherwaterwaysencounteredduringtheexcavationsshallbetemporarilydivertedandreinstatedorotherwisetakencareof,asdirectedbytheEngineer. (a) Soft/LooseSoil Generallyanysoilwhichyieldstotheordinaryapplicationofpickandshowel,rakeorotherordinarydiggingimplements,forexamplevegetableororganicsoil,turf,gravel,sand,silt,loam,clay,peat,etc. (b) Hard/DenseSoil Generallyanysoilwhichrequiresthecloseapplicationofpicksjumpersorscarifierstoloosensame,forexamplestiffclay,gravelandcobblestone.Note:Cobblestoneistherockfragmentusuallyroundedorsemiroundedhavingmaximumdiameterinanydirectionbetween80mmand300mm. (f) HardRock(blastingprohibited) Forhardrockrequiringblastingasdescribedin(c),butwhereblastingisprohibited,theexcavationhastobecarriedoutbychiselling,wedgingoranyotheragreedmethod.ReferClause. (g) CommonExcavation Thisshallrefertoexcavationinallsoilsexceptrockrequiringblastingwiththeuseofexcavatingandearthmovingmachinery.2.2.3 Blasting Shouldrockbemetwith,inthecourseofexcavation,itmustberemovedwithwedgesandlevers. BlastingshallnotbeallowedwithoutthewrittenpermissionoftheEngineer,whomustbefullyinformedbytheContractorastothestepstakenbyhimtosafeguardthesurroundingproperty,theContractorshalltakeallresponsibilityforanydamageorannoyancecausedbywayofblasting.BlastingoperationsshallbecarriedoutasperthespecificationssetoutunderrockblastinginSectionXIVofBSCP2003. Insoftrock,iftheContractorwishestoresorttoblasting,hecandosoonlywiththepermissionoftheEngineer,butatnoextracost.2.2.4 AntiquitiesandUsefulMaterials Anyfindssuchasrelicsofantiquity,coins,fossilsorotherarticlesofvaluewhichmaybediscoveredduringtheexcavationworkshallbethepropertyoftheEmployerandshallbedeliveredtotheEmployer. AllusefulmaterialsobtainedfromtheexcavationshallbethepropertyoftheEmployerandshallbestackedseparatelyinregularstacksasdirectedbytheEngineer.2.2.5 Protection Trenchesandfoundationpitsshallbeprovidedwithpropercautionsignalsandmarkedwithredlightsatnight,ifnecessary,toavoidaccidents. ExcavationsaretobeinspectedbytheEngineerandtheworkapprovedbeforeanyfurtherworkorconcreteorbackfillislaidonthem.Concreteorbackfillshallbelaidassoonaspossibleafterinspectiontopreventdeteriorationduetowaterorweather.TheContractorshalltakesufficientprecautionsagainstdeteriorationofexcavatedsurfaces.Ifsurfacesbecomeunsuitableduetowaterorothercauses,deterioratedsurfacesshallberemovedandreplacedwithconcreteasdirectedbytheEngineer.TheaboveshallbeattheContractor'sexpenseifitiscausedbynegligenceorforwantofprecautionsonthepartoftheContractor.2.2.10 DisposalofSurplusMaterials AllsurplusmaterialshallbecarriedawayfromthesiteanddumpedatdumpingsitesselectedbytheEngineeruptotheleadspecifiedinthebillofquantities.TheEngineermayinstructtheContractortodumptheexcavatedmaterialsinregularheaps,bunds,blankets,rip-rapswithregularslopesasdirectedandlevelledsoastoprovidenaturaldrainage.Asarule,allsoftermaterialshallbelaidalongthecentreofheaps,theharderandmoreweatherresistantmaterialsformingthecasingonthesidesandtop.2.2.11 De-watering TheContractorshallprovide,maintainandoperatesufficientpumpingequipmentoftherequiredcapacitytokeeptheareaofconstructionfreeofwaterfromrain,drains,floodssprings,etc.duringtheconstructionperiod.
