InthisworkFreudattemptedtodevelopaneurophysiologictheorybasedontransferofenergybytheneuronsinthebraininordertoexplainunconsciousmechanisms.Heabandonedtheprojectwhenhecametorealizethattherewasacomplicatedpsychologicalprocessinvolvedoverandaboveneuronalactivity.By1900,Freudhaddiscoveredthatdreamshadsymbolicsignificance,andgenerallywerespecifictothedreamer.Freudformulatedhissecondpsychologicaltheory—whichpostulatesthattheunconscioushasorisa"primaryprocess"consistingofsymbolicandcondensedthoughts,anda"secondaryprocess"oflogical,consciousthoughts.Thistheorywaspublishedinhis1900
