Thurberdescribedheras"aborncomedienne"and"oneofthefinestcomictalentsIthinkI'veeverknown."

JamesThurberwasborninColu6Thurberhadtwobrothers,WilliamandRobert.Once,whileplayingagame,hisbrothershotJamesintheeyewithanarrow,andThurberlostthateye.Thisinjurywouldlatercausehimtobecomealmostentirelyblind.Unableinchildhoodtoparticipateinsportsandactivitiesbecauseofhisinjury,hedevelopedacreativeimagination,whichheexpressedinhiswritings.
