Whilethedevelopedcountriesareconsumingproportionallymorenaturalresourcesthantherestoftheworld,they'vealsotakensomegoodmeasuresinprotectingnature.Andasadevelopingcountry,Chinacanlearnfromtheminthisaspect.
Lastyear,whenIwasvisitingAustraliawithagroupofChinesestudentswhohadwonprizesinanEnglishSkillsTest,ourAustralianhostsinvitedustojointhemforahorse-rideinthemountains.Aftertwohoursonhorseback,wereachedavalley,wheretherewasamostbeautifulmeadow,withflowersinallcolorsdottedonahugeblanketofgreen.WhenIbegantopraisethebeautyofnature,myfriendstoldmethatinthisvalley,thereusedtobeabigmineandthewastewaterfromthemineturnedeverythingbrown.Whentheminewasabandoned,peoplemadegreateffortstorestorethegreenvegetation.Theyalsousedthelatestbiologicaltechnologychoosingthebestgrassseedssuitableforthelocalsoil.Sothebeautifulmeadowisaresultofcommitment,hardwork,andnewtechnology.
WhathappenedtothisvalleyinAustraliashouldalsohappentoourYellowRiverand,infact,itishappening.IhaveseenfarmersplantingtreesonmountainsalongtheYellowRiver.Ihaveseenthemclimbthemountaintopswithseedlingsontheirshouldersbecausetheyhadnomachinery.Ihaveseenthempourontreesthewatertheyhadcarriedupinbucketsfrommilesdownthevalley.ThesefarmersarequietlynourishingourYellowRiver,justastheriverhasnourishedthem.
Andthesefarmers,menandwomenIdon'tknow,gavemetheconfidencethatweandourYellowRiverwillgrowtogether,andsomedayinthefuture,wewillbeabletodrinkthecleanwaterfromourYellowRiveragain,becausesheisourdearestmother.
