Buttakealongerviewandthereisasurprisingamountthatwecansaywithconsiderableassurance.Assooften,
thepastholdsthekeytothefuture:wehavenowidentifiedenoughofthelong-termpatternsshapingthehistory
oftheplanet,andourspecies,tomakeevidence-basedforecastsaboutthesituationsinwhichourdescendants
